I feel that a few words should be said for a true whippet Man.

Many will have read in the dogs press about the death of Fred Nicholas,

I feel that it is right that the whippet folk on here should also say farewell to such a Gent as this.

For all the people new to the breed that did not have the pleasure in meeting Fred it can only be said that he made many a show so much more enjoyable, he was a card.

People such as Fred have made the show environment that we enjoy today.

He has now taken his place with so many others.

So, when you read this thread take a moment to look at your whippets and think of past people in our breed such as Fred.

CHEERS MATE,

good night God bless.

I feel sad that i never met Fred

RIP

I have never heard of him or met him but after those lovely words Bertie i feel i should know him.

God Bless Fred xx

So very well put. The whippet world has lost a great ambassador and true lover of whippets.

He was a great and funny man, great words Bertie.

We were watching a judge, who shall remain nameless, doing his stuff one day and Fred said. 'Look at that, its like watching underwater soot juggling, very entertaining but you have'nt a clue whats going on!! :D

Another of lifes great characters lost but not forgotton.

o:) Meet you again someday o:)

At what was probably the last time he went to the `whippet `club show at Coventry , I told Fred I was having a bet in the Grand National , he asked me what i was betting and said could I put a bet on for him. I did and his horse was placed , but next time I saw him to give him his winnings he wouldnt take them ( He had won the princely sum of £ 5.50 ) so I gave the money to whippet Rescue .

One memory I have of Fred is when he judged Manchester ,at the Gmex I think it was , Badger was a puppy

Even though in his last years he couldnt see a deal :( he still loved to come to the shows ,just to be amongst his whippets and old friends .

I feel I must mention Jean and Colin Shaw who are carrying on Freds name in the ring , ( LOWGLEN) may they have lots of success after helping keep an elderly gentleman happy in his twilight years

Hes back with all his old whippets

A member of natures true Gentlemen.

Fred was no `angel ` he certainly had an `eye for the ladiies ` :- " , ( even when he couldnt see them very well   )

I have never met Fred either but there is a whippet legacy there to respect and he sounds like he made a lot of good friends and made a lot of people happy whilst he was on this earth.

Hope you have met up with all your old dogs Fred and will look down smilingly on us all.

His legacy in Australia was a show/stud dog that almost every kennel was some of. You may have to go back a way. However LOWGLEN OAKBARK MASTERMIND put a stamp like no other of the greater sires that have come here. I remember one year he sired every dog class, & some of the bitchs too. I think that says it all.
