hi, thanks again to the westhoughton team for a good well organised event.... and thanks for the open sc draw that gives everyone's dogs a chance to win.......

i think this would be a good time to ask peoples opinions on weather they agree in an open draw being used,or not.. as the nnwrf have being using since last year, with a good responce...

I see no problem with it, provided members are not rowdy and allow the job to get done then a few extra sets of eyes don't do any harm.

Think more people who run opens are taking the same approach of having the scr draw done publicly with the scr dogs owners... The NNWRF haven't got a problem with any owner coming in and over seeing any of our draws as long as they are quiet ...Think the westhoughton lot have done there scr dog draw this way for some time now

iam not surprised, :D :(

thought this would'nt be long in coming up ;) with the B.W.R.A. bend championships looming ;)

WOnder if it might hit 50 pages john lol

BUT SURELY ASKING FOR A OPEN DRAW IS LIKE SAYING THAT YOU DONT TRUST THE PEOPLE THAT ARE DOING THE DRAW

I THINK ITS A CHEEK :( YOU GOOD ENOUGH TO DO THE WORK BUT NOT TRUSTED TO DO THE DRAW  GOOD JOB ALL US HANDICAP RACERS DONT GO ON LIKE THIS :p WE GET RACING BY 4 LOL

I can see that it could be a huge hassle if everyone wanted to watch a draw but then if your running an event and you've got a scratch dog running in it then I do feel that some might feel you've wangled it in your favour, I say this because I've heard it plenty times before when the cards are being handed out. Whilst it might be seen by some as insulting, I feel reassured that no-one can ''suggest'' otherwise when the drawns been seen publicly and drawn by people not directly involved in the days racing.

I suppose it depends on how organisers feel and whether they can accomodate it, we in the North-West just feel able to do this and so we do, it is not intended to incite other event organisers to change their methods, that's entirely up to them.

Think one or two of you have dived in and got the wrong end of the stick yet again, the NORTH WEST have always done an open draw and I hope as I'm sure they will, continue to do so AS WAS DONE ON SUNDAY

Seems ODD but apparently there was complaint about the open draw being done  Just goes to show you can't please anyone these days

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK NORTH WEST

Well done Jac running your first open as N/W Sec and as allways the rest of the N/W crew who allways muck in

with the b.w.r.a. champs coming up

i mentioned this to someone that this would come up on k9 about an open draw.

Thanks Linda, I have big boots to fill. ;) I'm sorry I didn't get to speak to you when you approached me yesterday but I was panicked about everyone waiting on me for the presentation, I will try to speak to you in person when possible.

Your club needs a new handicapper !!!!! :p

Open draws are fine if there is enough space for it to be done in without the organisers being hindered. If the onlookers are happy to be just that it wouldnt be a problem, but when you are doing the draw, trying to get programmes out as quickly as possible, it is just easier sometimes to do it in peace and quiet. Very easy for people to suggest these things and ciriticise but how many have actually done a draw for an event be it a club open or a big event. When we queue to collect the programme to see which race we are in we shouldn't forget the people that have spent the last hour or so doing the work whilst we are idly chatting and drinking tea :) Less critiscism more praise i think to the people who put themselves out to get our racing sorted cos soon there won't be anyone willing to do it if all we do is mistrust :D

In the 80s, at my old club we used to invite a couple of racers to witness the draw for opens and put their names on the program.

It seemed to work then as everyone knew the draw was unbiased.

Sounds like a good idea , two different racers at each event . May be the answer

think its a good idea, but very hard at the bwra champs as all racers are scratch so why would you just want the big dogs to be a open draw ?? if your doing open draw then should be all classers and dont think i would like to try doing that with everyone standing round talking, think you could ask few people if they would like to watch the draw maybe someone from each reg would work if members feel it would help with trust, but think thats another proposal (w00t) another topic beat the 54 pages lol,if an open draw was ask for at this champs it would be a case of good well on the side of the committee not something they would have to do,
