I'd be grateful for criticisms of the following collars. I am endeavouring to creat a line of co-ordinated neckwear for sighthounds - Igs in particular. Kid, kangaroo, deer, emu and regular leather will be used. Buckle and martingale styles.

What do you think???

look very nice to me? would def be interested, not much out there for igs as far as i can find? would love too see them in more detail

At last as response, thank you. I hasve ony a very simple (= nasty) little camera and am having a bit of difficulty getting good pics.

The collar with the studs (just to look really scary) is a martingale style with matching tag collar. It is made of 'greenhide' which is very stiff.

The green collar in the top pic is kid with jewellery attached in front and I think is described as a slip collar. Just slips over the head and has two rings and works in a similar fashion to a choker.

There is another one (my favourite) which is beige folded kid with pleating and 'jewel' attached at front and fastens with a buckle. The leather for the buckle attachment is contrasting. Will try to get a piccy of that up for you.

I think there is a tote bag with matching slip/collar/lead.

If you wish to contact me direct and tell me what you'd like, I'll tell you if I can do it. Julie

They look lovely :)) Very unusual..... i love the gems

my only slight concern is you say (wasit the beige one ?)that it is made of stiff leather......i know when i buy collars for my whippets i always check them for their softness, :huggles: for their comfort :))

One or some of them are from a rigid and strong leather. They are the ones which should be used for walking out only - not to be left on all the time. Of course, if you liked the style, it could always be lined with kid. But you are right, they are rigid collars.

They look lovely. Would people buy "unusual" types of leather? Might it be any idea to have some softer leather collars (I'm not criticising, just a thought)? because I know Tiny can't wear hard leather because of his asthma, anything hard against his throat makes him cough.

They're lovely but even for outdoor walking I would only use the very softest thing I can find for Ig collars. They also look a little 'deep'. Zoomie's deepest collar is only about an inch and a half so he can still flex his neck.

The leather on his two wide collars is as soft as fabric. The ones I use on my whippets are still very soft and I would never use a rigid leather even if it was lined.

I tried a martingale once but didn't like the way it could hang loose if he suddenly stopped - I'd be concerned he could slip out of it. So I personally prefer a buckled collar that definitely won't come over his ears. The beauty of the very softest leathers is that they don't rub his neck or his fur.

This one in the pic I bought at Crufts and is made of stiff fake-leather straps but is so narrow he can still move very freely. He doesn't pull very hard but I will only use this one for going to shows and not for his normal walks.

They do look lovely :D However I only use very soft not too wide leather buckled collars for my Whippets & will do the same for my IG.

My first test of a collar is for buttery softness, in my opinion nothing else would do on these delicate throats and about one and a half inches wide. No matter what it is lined with, if the outer leather is stiff the collar will be. I only use collars for walking out, indoors they don't wear them.Hope this helps.

My boys have fabric house collars, which are really soft, but even these can make their fur go a bit thin.

Great Zoomie pic!

julie love the collars

i love pink for the girls with and gems and crystals something with lots of bling

i like different designs

their

great :p

Great. Thank you very much.

The stiff collar with the studs was for fun and to see if anyone was keen. I too prefer the soft leathers.

So looks like I'll make a few more softees. I have quite a lot of lovely fine kid (but still quite strong) and will shortly get some kangaroo hide as well.

I love the look of the slip collars but they do not seem to work well on my Iggy as head her is LARGER than her neck, whippets seem to be the opposite which means the collar will usually just sit snug around their necks.

Okay, anybody wish to suggest anything else stylewise?

I think the collers ae lovly but as said before even with my greyhounds and whippets I look for strong soft collers but pinks and blues sparkels and spangel and lots of bling going up to greyhound sizes

Hope you dont mind.....but i too think its a tad to wide, i like the stone in the middle, and would have liked to see it in a darker colour maybe black or dark tan or red, think it would show it off more......or the beige collar on a black dog.....hope im making sense, only it is past my -_- Zzzzbed-time

Thanks. I agree. These collars are essentially samples. Just making a heap of different sorts and hopefully someone will say they'd like this or that but different. All input in gratefully accepted.

Now, how many and what size and colour did you say you wanted? .... hehehehe

Do my eyes deceive me or is that a leopard print collar lurking by the bag???

I LOVE animal print and especially Snakeskin!!!
