Bluebell is my first Whippet - and would like opinions on whether she has any sort of show potential - not that I would seriously show her but just occasionally for fun.

I know you can't tell much from just a picture - couldn't get her moving - she didn't want to co-operate! :- "

Honest opinions very welcome - she's my very entertaining, lovable, wonderful hot water bottle firstly before anything else

How old is Bluebell? I would guess 4 or 5 months. You might have a bit of fun at your local shows but it is very difficult to get prizes at Championship shows especialy with a bitch. I hope this has not put you off to much.

:luck: with her and my dogs are pets first and show dogs second. :D

She's just over 5 months now - I wouldn't want to show her seriously - been there done that...with other breeds - but would like to have a bit of fun as you say she's always going to be pet first!

Thank you - she eats many many sardines to get a coat like that

There is a couple of breed club open shows you may like to enter or just pop along to see lots of other whippets. One is Whippet Club of Wales 10 Feb just over the Severn bridge. The other is South West Whippet the following week at Bridgwater. If i can help you with shows that are in the area or in a radius of X miles I will. :D

She look's lovely!! Nice bone for a bitch of that colour could be a tad short backed but photo's can decieve. Overall would say she is nicely balanced. You'll only know her show potential when you've shown her. As the saying goes you know you've got a good 'un when they've picked a couple of c.c's up.

Traditionally B & Ws never got anything. We were once told we were "brave" i.e stupid to enter a b & w . However some have done well recently so attitude's must be changing. What breeding is she? She look's like some of the one's we've bred over the years.

For what its worth I think she is lovely

Very strikingly marked, there are few black/black & white whippets shown in the ring in comparison to say fawns or brindles BUT she is one of the nicest i have seen for a VERY long time

She has a lovely long neck, i like her outline, she has a nice head & eye & good bone. Photo's dont always do justice tho & i think she could be stacked better & look better in the flesh as opposed to just a photo

Lots of luck with her :luck:

Thank you for those comments - I have so much to learn - she is quite square in the body at the moment.

She's by Debwood Celtic Major with Mournebrake (Bayfox Bluelad in Debwood x Debwood Dancing Nia-laur) out of Oakcreek Sedona Skies (Bayard Knockando for Elleonia x Crows lake Shadow)

im not a whippet exhibitor/judge but im wondering why a strikingly marked black and white wouldnt do as well as a fawn or brindle?one of the best show dogs i ever saw was a black and white male whippet in the states and i can only remember the latter part of his show name is was something top hat an tails.he was beautiful and such a showman, and his name suited him so well

I've been wondering the same - but I suppose it is fashion to some extent maybe - I just adore b&w's - and Blue is sure she's going to grow up to be a border collie like her best friend Alfie :huggles:  :huggles:

Was that one of the "Wheeling Whippets" ? owned by the late Jean Ulchy (English born) they produced a few good b & w's. Look in the whippet champions books & count the b&w's in them. Most succesful one was Peperone Pacesetter at Gilnockie less there's been one since we lost interest. I was once told by a "face" that "b&w looked like smooth haired fox terriers". Same person own's one now or did. Black's, Black parti's & blue's have never done as well as they should. Lot's of reasons are thrown up ..lack of bone , the colour masks their movement, bad action & more.

But hey ho there yuh go!!!
