I know nothing about showing whippets but I'm hoping to learn!!!

But I say get out and have some fun and go for it!!! I've always thought Bluebell is exceptionally pretty and her markings are amazing :D ...... and she'd be the first border collie to be shown in a whippet class!!!!! :- " :- "

Good luck :luck: :luck: :luck: Maybe I'll catch up with you at some of the South West shows next year!!!

Bluebell is my first Whippet - and would like opinions on whether she has any sort of show potential - not that I would seriously show her but just occasionally for fun.I know you can't tell much from just a picture - couldn't get her moving - she didn't want to co-operate! :- "

Honest opinions very welcome - she's my very entertaining, lovable, wonderful hot water bottle firstly before anything else

Super little dog my friend, and her condition is a credit to you, take her along to some shows what have you to lose

Thank you Keith :huggles: - She eats Sardines as if they're going out of fashion - hence the coat!!...and lots of stroking

Yay! Reckon Bridgwater sounds good although I have an idea that only whippets who are entered can attend??? If this is the case then I wouldn't be able to bring Jinny :(

For what its worth I think she is lovely
Very strikingly marked, there are few black/black & white whippets shown in the ring in comparison to say fawns or brindles BUT she is one of the nicest i have seen for a VERY long time

She has a lovely long neck, i like her outline, she has a nice head & eye & good bone. Photo's dont always do justice tho & i think she could be stacked better & look better in the flesh as opposed to just a photo

Lots of luck with her  :luck:

That was my first try at stacking her - we'll try to improve

Thanks for comments :))

well I'm a huge black and white fan and I think she's rather lovely. She seems to be a correct size for her age - although it is hard to gauge that in a pic, but her facial markings are very symmetrical and therefore appealing to the all-rounders, she has a good length of neck, nice angulation, although might be a little open in shoulder, a pretty head and ears look to be good at this stage, pleasing topline.

On the stack she could be placed back a little further but don't over-do it. She appears to be a little short in loin but as others have said photos can be deceiving.

I'm not familiar with her breeding but I'd say if the breeder of Bluebell is not dead against it then get out there, meet some fellow whippeteers and have some fun showing her. You will get those judges who are prejudiced against the colour or don't know what to do with it - but to hell with it - the more quality dogs of 'colour' we get in the ring, the better, I say.

Good luck - I will wait to see with interest how she goes. :luck:

im not a whippet exhibitor/judge but im wondering why a strikingly marked black and white wouldnt do as well as a fawn or brindle?one of the best show dogs i ever saw was a black and white male whippet in the states and i can only remember the latter part of his show name is was something top hat an tails.he was  beautiful and such a showman, and his name suited him so well
Was that one of the "Wheeling Whippets" ? owned by the late Jean Ulchy (English born) they produced a few good b & w's. Look in the whippet champions books & count the b&w's in them. Most succesful one was Peperone Pacesetter at Gilnockie less there's been one since we lost interest. I was once told by a "face" that "b&w looked like smooth haired fox terriers". Same person own's one now or did. Black's, Black parti's & blue's have never done as well as they should. Lot's of reasons are thrown up ..lack of bone , the colour masks their movement, bad action & more.

But hey ho there yuh go!!!

no it doesnt ring a bell,i cant remember the affix but if i saw it id recognise it.i know the dog was all american bred.i used to have a picture of him in one of my old dog books but i think i lent it to someone and didnt get it back!

Lovely, good feet, what more do you need, have fun with her and good luck.Lady P,Somerset. :luck: :luck:   :luck:

Hi jinnyfizz and meddling

You can enter your dogs "not for competition" if you do not want to show- your dog will then be able to enter the venue. Most shows now allow puppies from 4 months of age to enter NFC. The secretary of South west Whippet Club is Anne Vickerstaff and she can be contacted for a schedule on 01209 821979. You can check with Anne if your puppy is allowed to enter. Schedules for the show are out now and entries close on January 16th 2008  . If you are going it will be great to meet you. It's our local breed club show. Good luck :luck:

To the comments Re South West Whippet at Bridgwater, of not being able to bring unentered dogs. As Long as they are registered with the kennel club (which looks like they are) you could enter them not for competion which normally costs £1 but this would have to be done when entries closed on an entry form, they would be there officially then. But double check this with the secretary before doing so. :D

Thank you both for that information - would like to get there and Blue will be old enough to show by then  may give her a go

Promising puppy  , but start with some ringcraft classes. That is the best way to learn what is expected of you and gets your dog used to the atmosphere of a dog show. :luck:

I'm not sure if you can still do this, but a couple of years ago when I was still a Club Secretary, the KC brought in a scheme whereby "spectator dogs" could be allowed into the show on the day without having previously been entered not for competition. The KC sent out little entry forms and numbered stickers to give out to spectators - these stickers had to be visible just in case the field officer was about or if the show management asked who your were.

It was a scheme for people not entering other dogs at a particular show to enable them to come in and not have to leave their dogs in the car.

As I say, I don't know if the KC have stopped this as quickly as they brought it in.
