I thought Chit Chat was for any subject, not necessarily relevant to dogs/whippets.

I don't have any knowledge though so can't help I'm afraid.

They wear tall hats and have curls that hang beside their ears.

They don't believe in modern day technology, they do everything very traditionally.

From my personal experience they're nice polite fellows with large families.

Those are Chasidic Jews. There are more modern Jews who would also call themselves Orthodox (following Kosher dietary laws, etc). Sometimes the designation "modern Orthodox" is used.
