Oscar is now just past the 1 year mark.

Has been out hunting with ferrets several times.Seems eager to please, but the good news is he caught his first lamped rabbit the other evening. The rabbit was chased towards a hedgerow, and then caught whilst trying to get into cover. Then the lamp was switched off, and Oscar appeared at my side with the rabbit.I recently read that the praise has to be OTT, so copied the item and got on my knees and gave him a decent well done hug, and lots of praise. He will stay close when we walk the fields, so at the moment I,m well chuffed with his ability.

Oscar is lovely Mike  what way is he bred?

I must say you are very lucky getting him to catch bunny so quickly

I'm envious :- " as our boy was slow to catch on :b

Our coursing Whippet that we have here,we nearly gave up on! :b He was soooo slow to get a pick up it seemed like forever before he eventually succeded!! :D

For ages he used to just run along side them,it was as if he was'nt quite sure what to do? If it had'nt actually been for an article written by Plummer we would've given up.He wrote that one of the best rabbiting dogs he ever had,had taken over 200 misses before she finally got the message and he said he was close to giving up on her too! :p So we sort of thought well if Plummer's dogs can take that long maybe our Moss will get it eventually too :D Which he did now he's brilliant and even takes them as they are going back down their bolt holes,he does this amazing sliding thing on his stomache and side along beside the rabbit just as he takes it (w00t) It's great to watch

Does anyone else's dog's do funny thing's when rabbiting :teehee:

Took the dogs out this morning, abit concerned the ground was too hard early on, but it did soften up especially in the stubble fields.Oscar caught a rabbit as it bolted from a hole, a very quick accurate strike. He also caught a 2nd that had been chased by Blue on his side of the hedgerow, Oscar had ran down opposite the rabbit, the rabbit then turned into Oscars side of the field, where after a short course of about 25m, he made a very good strike and caught the white tail.

Blue also caught a rabbit, at a bury entrance.

Few hours out that was rewarded with a few courses and 3 rabbits, all 3 dogs are fast asleep "Dog Tired ?"

Never bothered netting the holes so gave the rabbits a sporting chance to escape.Fair play to them alot ran inside the hedgerow and made there escape down another bury.

Out again in the morning with a fella who owns a Deerhound so I,ll take the camera with me this time for you to see some pictures, Sunday evening.
