Hello there

We're proud parents of Sweetpea, a 15-week italian greyhound. She is a very active girl who can get a little too rowdy for comfort at times.

Sweetpea loves biting but I guess that's because she's teething. What really puzzles me is that whenever I'm with her on the sofa, she would grab my arm with her forelegs, stand on her hind legs and then start an embarrassing series of humping actions. We don't know what to make of it and certainly do not want to encourage her if it's abnormal.

Is this unusual behaviour? We could do with some advice.

:(

Not for an Italian Greyhound Bitch, she is however trying to dominate you.

we call it the whippet train in our house - thats cos the italian greyhound bitches do it to our male whippets, they are showing them who is boss!!

the whippets never do it to the iggies unless they are feeling very brave, and they usually end up getting snapped at for trying it!!

Hello Jan, Hi Doris

Thanks very much for your replies. We're newbies and don't know what to expect apart the things we read on the internet. We've also got the Lilian Barber book which will I'm sure will help us better understand the IGs better.

The mounting has got to stop for sure !

Can we see a picture of her :- "

Sorry no advice -( my two whippets do it to each other sometimes too (w00t) )

But mainly - Would love to see a picture of your Iggy please. :))

It would be lovely to see some pics of Sweetpea

Don't know if you've already had a peek in our FAQ section, but there's a thread that covers this behaviour generally, and it might reassure you a bit. It seems quite common.

Go to FAQ and find the thread on behaviour, or try this link which should take you to the right topic: second thread down, female puppies...

 :luck:

:b Gucci has never done this before until she came into season when almost daily she would take a fancy to my sons leg (either one she didn't mind!!) try and hump him and follow him round winging and wimpering!!!!! This stopped as soon as her season finished, much to Harry's relief! :sweating:
