Last autumn our daughter found a very skinny hedgehog and brought it home. It should have been thinking about hibernating but was far to thin and was very hungry!
I went down to our local Sainsburys supermarket and found some nice grain free trays of "Lily's" wet cat food of which it ate a whole tray over night and a whole tray the next night too. It was very ready to hibernate and ate smaller amounts over the next few days and then went to sleep. I was quiet worried that it was too thin to hibernate and woke it up a couple of times during the winter so that it would eat a little food. He, survived the winter but woke up quiet late.
He eats a tray of "Lilly's " cat food (mixed flavours) each evening and also enjoys a heaped tray full of raw meat, consisting of chopped up ; pheasant breast or, venison or venison heart or, venison diaphragm, or minced whole pheasant, but leaves some of the minced bones that are too large for him.
I don't handle him much and he does not come out in the day time, he does not roll up into a very tight ball and is quiet confident at being handled but not perfect, (this made trying to sex him very easy).
He was not brought into the house for the winter but had a nice cosy hutch in our covered back yard close to the back door.
A mixed box of "Lily's" trays costs about £7.00 ish. Just for a hedgehog ! but everything else is free.

That's a lovely outcome, I hope he doesn't get too comfortable though or he will be hooked on Lily's Kitchen!

Aw, I love hedgehogs. We used to get them in the garden but I haven't seen one for ages, probably because it's much better fenced now.

Lovely! Where we lived before, on the edge of a city, we had hedgehogs in our garden as there were gasp in the bottom of the fence. I hope he new owners haven't fixed that as it will interfere with their exploring and foraging. We used to wee them quite a lot. Now I've out in the sticks, I've only seen one hedgehog in 7 months! Lovely little creatures, a shame they're under threat.

I'm another fan of hedgehogs, though haven't seen one round my way for many years. Also a fan of spoiling our little wild friends when needs must(and beyond!😁)
