Poor Ozzy , hope he is better soon :luck:

 Have only just seen this post Tina, poor Ozzy and poor you :( ....the two of you are really having it tough at the moment! I hope someone manages to get to the bottom of what is causing this problem  Give Ozzy a big hug from Janet and I .....and a big lick from his sister Lola and Mum Tess. We are thinking of you all and sending healing thoughts Ozzys way.........Take care :b

Here is a picture of his ear flap

its very strange  like i mentioned before, there are no mites, ringworm or anything else shown up as yet. Its the liver thing that worries me now, could it somehow be connected (like an infection)??

is his tail affected too?

It does look and sound like a lupus condition that an Afghan I used to know had, his was controlled very successfully by regular medication

Its called Discoid Lupus and is an immune mediated skin condition mainly affecting the head, usually the muzzle is worst affected

Worth a mention to your vet though

You could also ask your vet about Cushings Disease.

This can cause elevated liver enzyme as well as thinning of the skin, calcified lumps under the skin, susceptibility to skin infections and other such things

There could be a variety of answers and I hope that, in the end, it will be a simple allergic reaction. Fingers crossed

Hugs for Ozzy and you :huggles:

It's horrible when they're unwell but at least if they are able to identify what is wrong with Ozzy, they can begin treating it. Gracie has had a funny tummy for 6 months and we can't get to the bottom (no pun intended) of it. She's been referred to Liverpool Uni's teaching hospital but they are not having any luck either. :( Good luck, keep us informed. :luck:

 Thankyou for your suggestions - i'll pass them on to the vet on tuesday :)) it only appears to be on his ear flaps and on the top of his head where his ears join at the front. Hear is another picture

this is where the biopsies have been done - one on each side

Poor Ozzy, i do hope that an answer is found for him soon :luck:

Just a suggestions but could it be some kind of disinfectant or bleach that has come into contact with his fur/skin, perhaps while investigating the bin?

Yes, I thought when I saw it was he must have been in the bin. I dont keep discinfectant where the dogs can get it  and empty containers of that sort go straight into the big wheelie bin. I thought it was egg or custard at first lol! but unfortunately it wasnt :b

Poor Ozzy, I hope the problem is found out soon and he is feeling better :huggles:

Hi Tina

Only just found this thread (been a bit busy lately lol) - I hope poor Ozzy is getting better, its awful when your beloved whippets are poorly. I've never heard of anything like that before and I hope the vets sort him out quickly. Sending lots of hugs and lots of luck.

:( Hi Clare, I know youve been busy lol! I bet its quieter in your house now :D Trust Ozzy to get something peculiar - he worries me to death :- Stitches out of his head on monday but dont know if we will have any results of the biopsy by then.

Thanks everyone for all your good wishes posts and pm's, I really appreciated it.

Tina
