I just heard on the radio in Scotland they are going to pay

you £12 a week if you can quit smoking..........

I just heard that on the radio too. Apparently the £12 will be put on a card and can be spent on fruit and veg only and anyone in the scheme has to have breath tests to prove they haven't had any cigarettes.

doctors............i nearly passed out

I used to have to do it every three months at my last job as well

because i used to solder and smoke i could never get the results

as high as they wanted.

oooooooooooo ill just nip out and buy some fags so I can give up and get paid, £12 will cover my fruit and veg nicely thankyou  :- "

To be honest what is £12 compared to what you spend per week on fags. I gave up smokeing 15 yrs ago so have no idea how much they cost now but i am sure it is nearer £5 per pack. Most smokers are on a pack a day. I was and I didnt concider my self a heavy smoker.

Surly if the incentive to save that money isnt going to stop them is a extra £12 a week? If it was the money they would of stoped when they went up again. I gave up because I was pregnant with my daughter. That was the incentive I needed offering me money wouldnt of made any difference to me.

dont think they will be rushing to join up to this  maybe if they gave £12 a week but saved it up for them for a year would be more of a incentive

i joined a website and ive saved myself £7,698.64 to date and ive been stopped 31 months now :D

I joined a site like that but lost my Cig/Saving tally when my pc crashed

the £12 is for a maximum of 12 weeks - so £144 is the most anyone can get

I quite like the idea; people get the quids and the patches but have to have regular carbon monoxide testing to make sure they've not been cheating. Anything that gives an incentive or helps with people's will power is a good thing in my books - no, the £12 wont be enough of an incentive for some, but for others it may well be

when i gave up I put the fag money in a piggy bank for 6 months that was my insentive and at the end got another dogs. all i had to rember was i couldnt smock and aford the dogs never had a fag since. infact my last sig is still in a boxs in a draw somewere 8 years on lol.

carnt see £12 a week on fruit and verg helping someone give up

Yes i have half a pcket of Royal in the cupboard. Would

loose my eyebrows if tried to light them now, they'd be

dry as old asshole's

Just heard another news bulletin on the radio and it's in Dundee that this pilot is going to be carried out. The £12 can be spent on groceries (the first bit I heard said fruit and veg but this second bit on the radio said any groceries except cigarettes or alcohol - spoil-sports!!!).

I think I'll start smoking and move to Dundee!!!

Sounds like a good idea Clair
