Bloody whippet  Bentley our new boy is a little monster, just recently at about 6 months old he has started to chew things he shouldn't i.e. shoes etc, i realise a lot of puppies do that and it's our fault for leaving them around  . Today however he has had us in a mega panic he managed to get hold of my wifes insulin pen, and a tube of Voltaroyl cream both of which were on a very high shelf in the bedroom, how he got up there we will never know. He has chewed through the pen full of insulin and eaten some of the cream. As you can imagine we have been in a right old panic rushing him to the vets not knowing if he has had any of the insulin or if it's just poured out on the carpet, fearing the worse of course.

The vet has told us that he seems ok, but to keep an eye on him over the next few hours to see if he starts to get sleepy etc. So still a little a worrying to do  :(

Bentley is our second whippet, and so different to Marley. They are both so much fun and have so much character but bentley has that little monster  in him, we didn't realise how naughty whippets could be (w00t) , what they can reach and what trouble they can get themselves into until we got him, however he is so lovable and we wouldn't want to change a thing  .

What a monster, butter would not melt in his mouth, I hope all is well .

I bet you cannot wait for tomorrow to come.

Good luck

Carol

Not one whippet is the same Dave, (w00t) Hope he will be ok  , know how you fill remember when Reg got that large box of chocolates, a few months ago and I had to rush to an emergancy vet other wise we would of lost in an hour if we had'nt got him there, they are such little buggers but so loverable  See you saturday xxxx

yep they can be little buggers these whippets!! (w00t)

one of mine ate a whole box full of quality street one easter including the wrappers..luckily they all pass through..foiled wrapped poos

my younger one only recently ate a tub full of camrosa..an ointment which im using for a wound, found a tub of sudacrem the other day..she must of not like that as she didnt eat most of it

i cant leave anything out..or it'l end up in their baskets eaten and chewed

the worst thing was when we had put some mouse poisin down under the sink(we just didnt think that she would go under there) no she didn,t BUT ate the bloody mouse who had eaten the posion..yet again very luckly :sweating: ,she had vomited most of it and a trip to the vet to give Vitamin K..a few hours later better in her self as she got quite poorly

im sure your little one will be fine  ..naughtly whippy

one of my whippets is like that, nimble as a cat, climbs to great heights ...

He's going on 4 years old now, so isn't mad to chew everything in sight. I still have to be careful not to leave anything tempting out. At least he never learned to open cupboard doors or the fridge. All of my whippets can open ordinary door handles (as opposed to doorknobs)

It sounds like your pup is going to survive this incident okay, but what a fright!

shouldn't this discussion be in the general whippet section?

Good news, Bentleys absolutely fine panic over. Thank you everybody for your best wishes and advice esp, Vitamin K. Spent last night putting everything that can be eaten safely away in padlocked cupboards  .

You are right though Macha i meant to put this post on "General discussion" instead of the racing site, but got carried away writing it in the panic and put it on this one  .

Pleased that Bentley's ok
