I normally clip Dudleys claws myself and he's always been pretty good but when I went to do it a few weeks ago he made quite a fuss, especially when I tried to do the front ones. I persevered but had to give in eventually and go to the vets. The nurse said he had "funny paws" said he had high knuckles. Anyway I told our dog trainer about this and she wondered whether he had joint problems, hence the way they look and maybe he won't let me near them as he has some pain?

Although this is very much a possibility he really doesn't show ant signs of pain or discomfort? And i'm sat here now stroking and manhandling his paws and he's not flinching. I've never hurt him whilst clipping his claws so I don't think it's anything to do with that.

I've sent some pics to his breeder to see what she thinks, it's maybe just his breeding and he's just being awkward when it comes to claw clipping but just wondered what you guys thought...

They look just like my Murphy's paws - very compact. In my whippet book it describes them as 'cat paws'. They have never caused him any problems.

I think you'll find a lot of people struggle to clip the nails on the front paws of their whippets. They particularly hate having the front ones done, don't seem to mind the back ones so much. There have been a number of threads over the years where owners have asked for help....as their dog struggles so badly. Fred was the same. It took one person to hold him tight and another to grab his paw and clip his nails. I now use a dremel and have never looked back although his nails grew so long at one point, that I've never really succeeded in getting them short again.

I can't comment on the shape of the feet.....I expect the show folk would be quite knowledgeable here as the feet are something that dogs are judged on.

Our boys feet look just like that when they stand up. Probably he is just antsy about getting his nails cut. I usually do the boys when they are flat out after a long walk and they barely even notice. -_-

The girls are a different kettle of fish, I have even used tranquilisers once and the second you touch their feet they go berserk. I take them to the vet nurse to have them done now, daft little sods.
