i dont think he wud b able to race @ non ped open events but handicaps wud prob cater 4 u. we have 2 pedigree puppies in training @ westerhope dog track on sat mornings 11am start.

am sure horden would give you a run up,and tips for training, good set of members too ;)

We include pedigree racing at our open events in the North West, both A & T Miners and Westhoughton WRC.

Not sure how you feel about travelling though, sure you will get plenty of schooling at your local clubs.

im sure stockton wouldnt mind you trainign your pup their 8)

some events that non ped racing hold do have ped's racing in because some racers have peds also so you would be most welcome to run if you were a member ;)

My little blue boy Sam, is just over the year, all schooled up and wanting to race. He's just over 21' in height so too big to race at most competitive races for peds. So would welcome any info too! Based in the south.

Thanks

Vic

wait till its a lot older to start schoooling, but you could go and let him see whats going on.and get use to the noise/dogs/ traps.

depends on the size 10/12 month shouldnt be far away for schooling. when they have no front knuckle on the wrist is a good indication fully grown,

there is a ostopath goes to aycliffe every 3 weeks r meek,he would tell you when your dogs ready to school. :luck:

aycliffe have 3 or 4 peds running, they have some cracking races :luck:

Firstly he won't be anything like as fast as the non-peds but I've trained and raced a couple of times at non ped tracks and the people are really friendly and helpful. You'll have fun.

Non-ped racers value pedigree whippets greatly. They tend to be ideal for training the young non-peds being generally slower and passive in character without being total walkovers. As such a number of non-ped race events accomodate pedigrees in their events with no weight or height restrictions and quite a few operating a time handicap race as heavier set show bred whippets weigh more but generally are slower on a track.

Race events through the year that accomodate pedigrees:

Valentine / Sailaway Open

BWRA Bend Bonanza

English Derby

George Hartley Memorial

Scottish Derby (not sure on this as they had this in conjunction with the Caledonian Pedigree whippet racing club in 2008 but there was discussion about opening it to other pedigree whippets)

NNWRF Also held a pedigree race at this years Golden Jacket event in Ayr.

My 3 peds are 6 next month. They've had a succesful racing career of weekly club racing, trained many of the non-peds running from the North West and also acquired a fair few trophies and velvet jackets in their careers thanks to the support of non-ped racers. I think it's fair to say with enough motivation and support there's no reason why you cannot have your own pedigree racing whippet that you'll be proud of. Best of luck! :luck:

can u race a pedigree with a non pedigree in a local time handicap?

yes why not we need racers in all clubs

just wondered why the likes of newton aycliffe and a & t miners seem to have separate handicaps 4 pedigrees?

easy carol a ped would be sitting off to big a mark (the strings would'nt be long enough )

so really u r saying it prob wudnt b fast enuf? maximum mark @ westerhope is 20 yds i think.

At Old Hall the other week the NPWRA held a peddie Championship. We took our timer with us.

To compare the non-peds with kickboards in? were doing 150 yards haven't a clue what handicap at around 8.5 the fastest ped time (without kickboards) was 9.46 (150 yds scratch racing). So non-peds were running a sec faster and that's a long way in whippet racing. I believe that no peddie whippet has ever broken 9 secs over 150 yards.

I don't know who the non peds were but you could find out by asking the Old Hall folks who where there. The peddie was dual NPWRCh & WCRCh Evensent.
