Pet camel kills Australian woman

Camels were brought to Australia in the 1840s for transportation

A woman in Australia has been killed by her pet camel after the animal apparently tried to have sex with her.

The woman was found dead at the family's sheep and cattle ranch near the town of Mitchell in Queensland.

The woman had been given the camel as a 60th birthday present earlier this year because of her love of exotic pets.

The camel was just 10 months old but already weighed 152kg (336lbs) and had come close to suffocating the family's pet goat on a number of occasions.

On Saturday the woman apparently became the object of the male camel's desire.

It knocked her to the ground, lay on top of her and displayed what the police delicately described as mating behaviour.

Young camels are not normally aggressive but can become more threatening if treated and raised as pets.

There are many species on this plant that should NOT be kept as pets and camels are one of them

They are wild animals which are used as workhorses in certain countries but are still dangerous!!!!

That said, it must have been horrific for that poor lady :(

Oh i dont really know what to say about that story

who has a bloody camel for a pet............and a randy one at that

i read this in the paper this morning and i gotta say that while its a terrible story i couldnt help but laugh at it...u really couldnt right a tale like that could u (w00t)

That is awful really, but it made me laugh (only a bit :- " ) :b ......

(w00t) Crikey .......................... my Gran used to have 20 camels a day and shes still going strong!!

Thats a weird and sad story.. :( Strangely enough the llamas at the farm where I work display this type of behaviour too and often mate on the ground...the male makes weird noises too... :- "

It is not adviseable to go in with them when the male is being amorous like this.....mainly because of incidents exactly like this one apparently.. (w00t)

We have had a goat too suffocated in a very similar situation too...with a llama (w00t)

Camels and llamas are distant cousins...

i used to work on a flat racing yard, and one of the 2 year old thoroughbred colts where i used to work was a bit, er, um , keen :b

thankfully he wasn't one of my 'charges' :sweating:

he'd be nice as pie when anyone first went in his stable, then he'd sneak up behind em when they were mucking out and the first they knew about any sort of "attempt on their virtue" was when a foreleg gently appeared over their shoulder (w00t)

the number of times i heard a scream, lot's of skuffling noises, followed by shouts along the lines of "f&ck off ya B&ST&RD!!!!"

(w00t) (w00t) (w00t)

shouldn't laugh
