Hi,

I've been looking for a small lurcher, whippet or whippet X for a while now.

Ideal age 3-6 yrs. A couple of rescues are looking out for me but nothing so far.

We have 9 yr old 24" lurcher bitch and it would be company for her. Must be cat friendly.

I work f/t and someone is home part way thro' the day, so must be able to cope with being left for a few hours. We have a dog door from the kitchen into the garden.

I'm interested just as a pet. We live in rural Devon. Loads of footpaths and fields backing onto our house.

If anyone hears/knows of something I'd be grateful. :)

WILL LOOK OUT FOR YOU,I'M IN SOMERSET.

I don't know which rescues you've tried, but these are a few who all specialise in Greyhounds and lurchers and are either South-West based or operate UK wide:
The Greyhound Sanctuary

Greyhound Rescue West of England

Greyhound Gap

Evesham Greyhound and Lurcher Rescue

Southern Lurcher Rescue

Loads of luck with your search!

Thanks for replying.

I am registered with most of these!

Have had 2 homechecks and still waiting. I've been looking since last October.

The problem is, you've either got to be lightning quick if a suitable dog comes up, or it's cat friendly but only a youngster. I don't want a youngster as I work and a pup needs someone around most of the time.

The other problem is that somehave been at the other end of the country which is a long way to transport my own dog to see if she gets on etc.

It's not that I'm fussy, but I don't want to upset our own bitch/cats with the wrong dog by making a desperate choice!

I did find one adverise for her and also gave a no.who might have one too,but not heard anything since.

Hello all,

Thanks for all your help and suggestions, much appreciated.

Last weekend, having waited since October to find a dog, I was made aware of 4 possibles within 2 days! (Ladyp-one of these was in a Somerset rescue..)

The first issue is that I'm waiting to hear if I'm required to take in a cat friendly foster dog for a while for a rescue.( bigger than I have been looking for but if it goes ahead it's only a temporary arrangment until a permanent home is found.)

If I hear for certain this is not going ahead I'll be able to check on the dogs I've been told about, by which time they'll probably have been snapped up.

Daledogs, the lady who'snumber you gave me- do you know if the dog is OK with cats?

Thanks again everyone :))
