Can anybody recommend what Insurance i should get for my whippet and also what i should look for in a good insurance policy, I have seen so many at different price's and would like a little advice.

Hi, after reading all previous topics on insurance I went for Marks and Spencer, £129 a year plus £5 a year to have nil xs, for a 16 wk puppy no existing health problems, payable monthly (interest free) continues for as long as you pay the fee ie:- ongoing problems can still be claimed for.

Fortunately not had to use it yet, but they send a claim form with the cover book ready for when needed, I've had other insurance from M&S and they've given good aftersales service :luck:

I'm about to switch mine to Marks and Spencer insurance. I didn't even know about them providing insurance until a related thread came up recently. My dog's been insured with Petplan for the past year because they insure for life if your animal develops a chronic problem [make sure you get one with this  ].

However, my renewal has just come through at £114 [£20 more than last year!] and is 25% + £80 excess for vets bills, covering vets bills for up to £4000 per year. This make it pointless claiming for any small claims.

Went onto the M&S site yesterday - who's policies also cover for life - and got a quote of approx £100, NO excess and vets bills covered up to £7000 - a no brainer for me! :D

Good luck :luck:

Sainsbury's Petcare has been excellent for the 5 whippets/greyhounds we've had in total, pups and oldies,

cheers,

Belle

We have M&S as well for our whippet. We still have our cat with Petplan because she is now aged 13 and has been with them since she was a kitten. We have only had to claim once from Petplan for the cat and they were very efficient and paid very quickly. We have not had to make a claim from M&S.

Have a scout in FAQ - this subject is covered in a lot of detail there with really informative posts from K9-ers, and the suggestions for M&S are spot on according to most people

Here's the link: FAQ insurance

You'll find lots of other general info there worth reading, too. Good Luck :luck:

HELLO,

Do insure !.

I did not insure my first whippet, bought 15 years ago as the breeder said that whippets are extremely healthy and do not suffer ths sort of illnesses other more in-bred dogs get. Unfortunately, at the end of her life (aged 12) she developed an auto-immune disease and inspite of trying everything with the Vet, she died in an animal hospital. It was very sad and the bill came to £2,000.

When I bought my second whippet 21/2 years ago I looked at a lot of insurances and decided to plump for Tesco. It costs about £12 a month (slightly less I think).

Needless to say, I have not had cause to use it and hopefully never will.

I suppose that one could argue that if you saved the £12 a month over the span of a dogs life, you would have enough in the kitty to pay for everything but the insurance gives peace of mind. Like most insurance policies, the owner still has to pay up t6o a certain sum and things like pregnancy, neutering etc. are not covered. For peace of mind, it is worth paying out the money as if anything does go wrong, you can afford to get the best treatment.

The Tesco insurance covers a number of things you wouldn't even think about such as liability, cancelling holidays etc. - pick up a brochure in-store.

Good luck !

Anne.

Many thanks to all who have left me a reply been looking at M&S and seem to be very popular thanks once again.
