Hi everyone,

I am a vet student at RVC and I would really appreciate your help with my project. I am looking for current dog owners or anyone who has ever been bitten by a dog (including a play bite) to fill in a short survey which should take about 5 minutes to complete. I am looking into the risk factors and impacts of dog bites in children in the UK.

I got to q 23 before it started to refer to being bitten "as a child". I was bitten as an adult so abandoned the survey. Maybe the intro needs revisited?

As to how being bitten as a child affected me, I had to say not at all but in reallity it has in one respect, it was a Pekingese and I still dont like them.

My grandparents had a peke. It was a nasty vicious little thing. I wasn't allowed anywhere near it even with my grandparents present as they didn't trust him with any child. It's not a breed you seem to see many of nowadays.

Count yourself lucky - my aunt and uncle had a peke who came to 'visit' us when I was a teen when they went on holiday. They also gave me a collar and asked me to put it on her. After they'd left and I approached the peke, I discovered why they hadn't done it themselves (I won though)

I did it, although I found it a bit confusing, not sure if I should have done it because as far as I can recall, I wasn't 'bitten' until I started working at a dog grooming salon two and a half years ago.

Done. A great thing to be doing research in! I'm absolutely convinced that with the exception of trained attack dogs all bites are either fear/startle reactions - or resource guarding. I have a corgi that does both...!
