Is it a trait of whippets to snuffle and poke you rather than cover you in licky kisses?

I had a wee rescue whippet x many years ago who showered me with snuffles and pokes in the eye, mouth and ears but would never lick.

I thought that perhaps it was just her way but both Stanley and Esha are most definately pokers.

(Stanley occasionaly slips a sly lick). Ziggy on the other hand is like a wet face cloth.

Just wondering if others experience this, or are my dogs trying to tell me I have bad breath?! (w00t)

Sada will snuffle me while Kaya will cover me with licky kisses.

Mind you if i ask Sada for a kiss she will lick my nose

Spry is a nightmare for licking I always said if she had pups they would be bald with the licking and for the first couple of days I thought I was right, but she's calmed down with it now. :lol:

Callie is a licker and Sienna is neither she just leans up against you :huggles:

Peggy likes to kiss'n'lick and if one of the kids(esp the younger one has just finished eating something nice eg a sugary doughtnut she likes to lick as much as she can)

Bow likes to snuffle and poke for attention

Ella is a licker of noses - kissing wasn't her bag but she is beginning to learn by watching Jinny :- "

The other thing that Jinny has always done is to prod me with her nose when she wants my attention :wub: :wub:

Both my two like to gently prod when they want something. However my lurcher,Captain does this more than Presley the whippet. Presley also licks but Captain never does.

I used to be woken each morning by Presley prodding me in the face as he stood by the side of the bed. Unfortunately he got more than he bargained for one day when he prodded me in the mouth when I was asleep and I bit him (he wasn't hurt - but we were both very surprised (w00t) ). Strangely enough he hasn't prodded me awake since and now just jumps on my head instead.

I think he definately had the last laugh!

Blaze is a 100% licker

Jessi is a "chomper" (inherited trait from Daddy, she mouths your arm, or nose, or ear when she's excited)

Talli used to prod but now she kisses (she's a bit dim I don't think she realised then when you lift your nose to someones face you stick your tongue out too) :b

Kerri is a "strangler" she only licks if she wants her dinner, she lays her head across your chest or neck and takes her weight off her front legs, effectively strangling you if she hits the intended spot :sweating: .

Riley is a licker-kisser and likes to hug at the same time - affection can only be expressed to its full when he has his paws wrapped round your neck (by you already sitting down/or on the floor/ or him leaping into your arms) and kisses are smoothered on your cheek/nose/neck. Rounded off with a good tail thrashing, sometimes a little nibble is thrown in too, just for the hell of it. "Breakfast kissyes" are his other speciality - these are designed to get you out of bed in the morning and consist of excessive licking of the face followed by a shoulder plant (this too on the face), and a flip over and wriggle routine.

Milo lacks the above enthusiasm, but sometimes this makes his little shows of affection a bit more "meaningful". He likes to prod his nose at you, rub a bit of muzzle and sit on your lap or curl against your legs. He also will come and rest his head on your lap and when you stroke him his tongue may flick out a little. When he wants something though, it's a usual "shout and spell it out" (roo-roo-rooing and sitting saying "please" -paw raised- with mad running circuit to where his food bowl is put at feedtime, where the foodbin is/or to the fridge). If he wants to go in a room which the door is shut, he come get you to open it - and shows you by nudging his nose near the door.

(w00t) I have a 'snoker' (sniffy-poker) nice most times but horrible when you get it in the eye from a 5-6ft vertical poing! That's why we call her the 'Snokey Torpedo'.

Bluebell is a licker - not a kisser - any piece of bare flesh that she can access with her tongue - summer is going to be a nightmare - especially likes wet legs straight out of the shower - she's straight up those stairs when she hears the shower stop! :lol:

She's also the best hugger out paws around neck and head either resting on top or snuggled in to my neck. :huggles: :huggles: :huggles:

She's running up and down stairs at the moment 'throwing' her own ball - she chucks it from the top and then tries to beat it down :blink: :wub:
