Hi Folks, some more info in todays Daily Record, go here -

and page down to 'I dumped death dog'

I DUMPED DEATH DOG THE owner of a greyhound left to die in police kennels yesterday admitted he dumped it at the cop shop.

Trainer Colin Kerr, 44, handed three-year-old Major over to officers in Dalkeith, Midlothian, claiming he was a stray.

In fact, the dog was a racer he had bought weeks earlier.

Kerr, of Dalkeith, said: "I feel terrible. I have never inflicted any cruelty on an animal and I thought I was doing the right thing."
...the dogs racing name was BUSHMILLS MAJOR

So the Trainer said he took the dog to the Police., saying he had found it. :(

if i was in scotland id track kerr down and geld the cxxt  same crap when these fukrs get caught..."he was a stray" !!! i know someone with a stray..STRAY FUKN BULLET  :- "

well im just waiting to see what happens to the police that forgot about this poor dog.im sure if it was me or you we would get banned and fined dont you think.?could this man not have found it a home rather than take it to police as a stray?

Considering what he might have done to the dog I think taking it to the Police station was quite responsible, in an irresponsible way if you know what I mean. Not so long ago we heard about thousands of greys being shot in Northumberland - how awful that poor Major would have suffered less if that had been his fate.

I agree with you!! And what a beautiful looking dog. :(

The guy who dumped the dog is described as a 'trainer', but he's not a registered trainer so presumably he bought the dog to run on one of the flapping tracks, probably Armadale or Thornton.

I'd guess the poor dog didn't come up to scratch, or was maybe injured so he thought he'd get rid of it by the easiest means by dumping it as a stray for the taxpayer to sort out.

Now he's whinging that he's never been involved in any sort of cruelty, and seems to expect people to feel sorry for him. Personally I feel pretty much as angry with him as I do with the police.

The police have obviously had a lot of stick about this. They've issued this press release:

I guess he handed it in thinking it would go to the dog warden to be rehomed or put down. Not a very responsible thing to do, but if the police had done their job right the outcome would have been much better than the fate of many other greyhounds.

He had no need to point out what he had done. But he had the guts to stand up and admit it. Let's just hope he takes a more responsible route with any future dogs he no longer has use for.

Exactly - surely someone in his position with so much experience with dogs :- " could have thought of somewhere better to take the dog.
