If I use biodegradable bags, is there any reason why I shouldn't dispose of them in the organic waste bin - the one for garden waste and food waste?

I couldn't see anything about putting it in the organic waste though. Only to double bag it and add to normal waste

I'd check on your council's website - it's highly likely they'll say they can't take them. In theory the dog poo should be OK because it'll be composted at higher temperatures than the average garden compost bin. But biodegradable bags can still contain some nasties: The Truth about Biodegradable Poop Bags

I've just spotted some cornstarch poo bags on Amazon which might be more environmentally friendly than the biodrgradable ones I use - but they're not 100% cornstarch so I need to investigate a bit more

Thanks both. It was really just the idle musings of a bored brain but there is some interesting reading there, I would never have thought of flushing funnily enough but when you think about it, it makes a lot of sense. Fortunately a lot of T's toilets are on our lawn; and living in a seaside town there are a couple of shops that sell little plastic spades for sandcastles so that might be a good way forward. What I can't understand at all is manufacturers making non-degradable bags. Even taking account of the article @JudyN linked, surely every little helps!

Some time ago I wrote to our Local Authority on a similar matter - not soon after getting our dog, if there wasn't one nearby, we went out of our way to use proper poo bag bins, often passing bins for general waste. I asked if we could put poo bags (with poo in, obviously) in the bins, and I was told yes as the contents all go to an energy from waste plant. This makes some of our walks a little more convenient. We are prohibited to put any excrement in our waste bins that our collected by the Local Authority, regardless of source and whether it's bagged or not. As @JudyN says, your Local Authority will provide you with the answer.

As far as I know, round here the poo bin contents end up in the same place as the general waste - a lot of dog bins round here have been replaced with general waste bins (with a separate compartment for recyclable waste). We're also allowed to put poo bags in our household waste.

I do wish local authorities would make the information about the most environmentally friendly way of disposing our waste, as every area is different.

Yes, i agree. I checked ours and they say at home to use the landfill bin as dog waste is not compostible. Which surprised me but if that's what they want ...
