Hope Flyn's okay.  Good advice Debbie.  I just cringe when I see people throwing sticks for their dogs.  I've seen first hand the results of a dog having their throat pierced when a stick landed wrong.
No matter how careful we are even Chelsea had her own stick injury, and when we wrote about it we were contacted by the person who runs this website http://www.colliecorner.com/stick-to-toys/ to see if we would be willing to put her story up there.  There are several examples of what can happen as a result of sticks.

:( Sticks are very bad news - when I worked for a vet I saw some nasty injuries and death caused by sticks. :( Unfortunately it can be very hard to stop some dogs playing with sticks.

Hope poor Flyn gets better soon. :luck: :luck: I sure he will be getting loads of extra TLC. :huggles: :huggles:

Flyn's 100% better thanks,he's just had a good run down the beach with Murph, but poor Murph has cut his pad :( ,I hope things don't come in 3's (w00t) :sweating:

 I forgot that Daisymaymoo ran into a tree yesterday & banged her shoulder  ,so that should be the 3!! :sweating:

Hope Flyn continues to make a good recovery, Debs. :luck: :luck: :luck:

Like Sarah, I saw some awful injuries caused by sticks - one memorable time we opened up an abscess in a dog's shoulder and took a stick out of it that had gone down the side of his tongue and travelled all the way through over a period of time - this dog was very poorly with septicaemia and eventually died. :( :(

A friend of mine's German Shepherd got a stick down the throat and endured SEVENTEEN operations over the space of eighteen months, trying to find out where all the bits of stick had migrated to, being referred to a specialist (far too late on in my opinion :( ) who did an MRI scan Several had ended up in his spine and all these operations were trying to get the last bits out. Very sadly, this wonderful, kind and trusting dog was evenually in so much pain that he started to growl at anyone who went to touch his back, and he had to be put to sleep, aged only five years old :( :(

I agree with everyone else - NEVER THROW STICKS - and if they swallow or are impaled on one inadvertently, go to the vet very promptly.

Poor guy! Hope he's feeling better soon.

My mother's stick obsessed lab has had the top of his canine knocked off which then had to be removed and has also impaled the back of his throat. She now has to be very very dilligent about keeping the bakyard completely stick free.

poor flyn give him a big hug from all the gang
