God, whippets are stressful. Our poor Freddie had to have a major op on Monday. We have just found out that he had an "Intesussception of the Stomach".

Over the weekend he went completely of his food and was sick a couple of times. So on the Monday morning we took him to the vets, thinking he had a stomach bug of some kind. The vet said his temperature was fine and would like to X-ray him. They found that his entire stomach was jam packed with food and that he had a blockage that wouldn't let it pass through, so they had to operate immediately to remove it.

We were so lucky we didn't run him anywhere as it could have killed him.

He is still under observation for the next 48 hours, he's on 3 types of antibiotics and painkillers is totally bruised around the stomach area, but has started to eat and is happy to be home.

To all those that pray, say a little one for Freddie tonight please.

Thank you all for your best wishes :thumbsup: . Since i posted this, we have been back to the vets. I spoke to the main man this time and it seems that they don't know what actually caused the problem. So this is a bit of a concern for us, not knowing means that we are going to have to be on the look out for the symptoms and cause again.

Good news though is that he is getting better, he is very sore, but getting around. All we need for him to do is poo :x and we will know the op went well.

Thanks Judith, Freddies doing great now. There has been a rumour that another one of Freddies litter had the same problem. Jean has checked and the rumour IS NOT correct, all the rest of the litter are in great health and looking forward to racing this year.

It was good to see Dave & Sandra at EAWRC yesterday with Freedie.

He is looking great, We are all so pleased that he is having a good recovery.

Thank you Carol for another great day at EAWRC. It was great to be back racing Bentley and Marley again after resting them for the last 4 months. That bloody Freddie though chewed through another seat belt :rant: , really glad he's getting better :angry: :lol: .

good to here Freddy is doing good and up to no good. I've counted 7 chewed seat belts to date with leaving them in the boot with no cage, you'd think I would have learnt before this to cage them!!!!

I've got his brother here, Blake who had his check up last week and booster, the vet said he has a low level heart murmur but not to worry. someone else told me that a standard vet may think that a normal whippets heart beat would sound different so he will be checked over soon with a greyhound vet to be sure.

Whippets DO have an irregular heartbeat, and your standard vet may not realise this. I'm always being told of heart murmers, and I always ignore them. I had a whippet a few years back "diagnosed" with a heart murmer at 2 years of age, who raced for the next 6 years, and only got retired when a vet said this while the wife was there. She retired her right away, but that was her choice. The bitch lived another 6 years. (dog, not ex wife)

Hi Gary, Buzz was also diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat at his 6 month check. He got checked by a cardio specialist. The specialists words to me when I picked him up were "go away and enjoy your whippet"
