Very sad - on the way home from cinema half an hour ago, I could see 2 little eyes shining in my headlights as I approached; a cat had been hit by a car and was lying in the middle of the road; I drove past, then turned round and went back to pick it up and put it on the grass verge. Poor little thing, must just have happened; he/she was still warm but no pulse. I couldn't bear to think of cars running over its little body Very beautiful little cat.

He/she's lying nicely on the grass now though; a lovely lady who was passing by came to look at the cat with me to double-check there wasn't anything we could do, we kept checking for a pulse etc but couldn't detect any signs of life. I knocked on some doors to see if cat lived there, but no one answered

Poor little thing. I did stroke its little face and say "goodnight sweetheart" before we left - I know I'm soft but I just couldn't have left it there in the road.

I kept wondering should I have found a vet but there was nothing that could be done for it, little soul.

Aww run free little one....how kind of you Wilfred x

I once saw one ran over outside my house, and went like you to pick it from the road before another car hit it

and was confronted by my neighbour across the road...it was her cat and she was absolutely heartbroken. She thanked

me and said she couldnt have lifted it from the road herself.

They are usually someones beloved pet.....and that was a thankless thing to do well done.

Thanks Jan and bless you as well for doing that. There's just something about wanting some dignity and kindness for it, isn't there? I just couldn't have continued driving home if I'd left it there, I knew I just wouldn't stop thinking about it.

while I was driving back towards it an ambulance with lights flashing etc, was coming towards me so traffic was pulling over to let it pass, near the place where the cat was; I was convinced something would have hit its poor little body but when I got there and pulled over, by some miracle (if that's the right phrase) nothing had touched it.

What a sad story, but well done for stopping. :huggles:
