I am looking for a little advice. Something very strange happened to my 5 year old border terrier mix last week. He suddenly was unable to walk, was shaking, falling to one side and hard a hard belly (however it wasn't distended). He was rushed straight to the vet however on the way there he let out an enormous fart and was back to his bouncy alert self within seconds. This episode lasted approx. 30 minutes. He is not usually a gasy dog so this in it's self was unusual for him. He was laying out in the evening sun and had not exercised or eaten in 2 hours.
Yesterday after his usual 90 minute walk, just as we were getting in the car to go home he suddenly fell to one side, was unable to walk and was looking very sorry for himself, after a perfectly normal romp in the countryside. It was a hot day but we waited until after 7pm when it was cooler to walk and he had access to water to swim in and drink. He did not pass any wind, was not trying to be sick, was not salivating excessively and did not have a distended belly. He was back to normal within 15 minutes. I have of course got him booked in for the vet this weekend to have a full check up.
He is fed a mix of organic dry food and raw food split into 2 portions daily and always has been. He is not fed from raised bowls and is not fed an hour before or after exercise. He is also not an excessive drinker. His poo's are perfectly normal and he has not vomited at all recently. He is not a chewer and hasn't eaten anything out of the ordinary.
I am just basically looking for some advice on what this may be? It doesn't seem like typical bloat symptoms however it is so out of character and extremely worrying. We recently moved which may have triggered a health condition due to stress or it may be early symptoms of bloat. He is a deep chested cross breed and in the prime of his life so I understand he could be more prone than what is typical. I am just looking for some relatable experiences of people who have seen their dogs with bloat or what I could do to prevent the possibility of it in the future.
Here is wee Charlie Bear enjoying one of his evening country side romps.
