Roscoe and Grover's breeder has contacted me today because she has heard of a pup needing a home and knew my Mum was looking for a whippet. The pup isn't related to Ros and Grover but has been handed over to the owners of another from Ros and Grover's litter as the original owners just wanted him out :( I don't know the pup's breeding yet (maybe seeing him tomorrow), all we know he is a sixteen week old pup, blue fawn and is KC reg, has all his needles etc. The usual tale of the family who bought him having a baby and being surprised when the pup wanted the kid's toys to play with

Anyway, a few questions. Firstly, my Mum isn't exactly sure what a blue fawn is like and my attempts to explain were quite poor! Does anyone have a pic of a blue fawn dog I could show her?

Secondly, my Mum had been hoping for an older dog, about 2 years old, as she sometimes looks after her grandaughter (my niece) who is 4 and thought a pup would be too boisterous. I'm afraid Ros and Grover are bad adverts for whippets in this regard as my two teenage lads let the dogs jump up and crawl all over them. I've reassured my Mum that lots of people combine whippet pups and young kids, it's a matter of training but I think she needs convincing!

My Mum comes to our house nearly every day so is well aware of all that having a whippet pup entails. She's had dogs before, an Afghan and three collies so knows the ropes.

I really want her to have this dog but know that my feelings can't cloud the decision - she has to make sure it works for her. I want to be excited at Ros and Grover's possible new family member but can't stand the suspense! Sensibly, my Mum says she will make the decision whether to have this dog before she goes to see it so she isn't just swayed by his inevitably gorgeous puppy dog eyes!!

You could see the panic in my husband's eyes when this happened today - he just knew the next question would be, "can we have him??'

two words for you good luck! :luck: :luck: :))

good luck for your mum, if not for you, and definatly for your OH (w00t)

hope all goes well tomorrow and this pup finds its forever home :huggles:

first blue fawn who comes to mind is nicky12's blue

Fawn with a blue tinge

My Irie is a blue fawn, albeit he is very light coloured.

The pup sounds lovely and I hope it all goes well :) I could just curse at these people who buy a pup and then choose to dispose of it because it was "more than they could cope with"

Here is Jill's Alfie from our Ruby's litter, he was a blue/silvery fawn colour, more so as a little pup.

Thanks for the pics and suggestions of blue fawn dogs - will send my Mum the links so she can see. I'm sure this little pudding will be gorgeous  I don't even know his name, so will have to think about that, too, as it might need changing!

best of luck :luck: wouldn't that be great?! and your two would have another buddy to play with :))

isn't Nut Chip a blue fawn?

K4tie did a great job of combining whippet pups with small children - and has the photos to prove it! Perhaps she could offer some advice.

Phoebe's a blue fawn (and white) - we're picking her up next Sunday. Here's a photo

Best of :luck: with your mum's possible new addition!

Hope you Mum gets the wee pup who has had a bit of a rough start and deserves some TLC :)

  god, dont ask me, it was a nightmare lol,

its not the dogs you have to worry about its the kids!!!! (w00t)

i cought kyle once holding rubys back legs up in the air like a wheel barrow

and zoe is awfull for putting their leads on them and tying them up some place in the house.

seriously though, the only thing that has been a problem is we never managed to stop the jumping up, which as they got bigger, they would on occation knock zoe or kyle over, possibily with a scratch from the claws :(

but 98% of the time they all live happily together with no problems, from either kids or dogs, and any problems are really minor,

definatly wouldnt change having them all together though, zoe takes great pride in telling her friends and teachers that she has 2 dog, 2cats and fish that "she" looks after (w00t)

Hello all :D :D :D :D

My Mum and Dad went to see the pup this morning and I just had a very cute whippie visitor to my house so they are having him!! He is more beautiful than you can imagine and I can't believe someone didn't want him. The people who fostered him have been lovely and given my Mum and Dad food, a bed, lovely collar, lead and toys for him. We are all in the same town (as I said, they own Ros and Grover's litter mate, Charlie) so will be able to keep in touch. Still don't know his KC name as his original family in the next town are dropping his papers off tomorrow. Doesn't matter anyway - he drank water from the pond when there's clean drinking water available and showed us he can reach the counter tops so he's definitely all whippet :D

Will try and get some pics up.

I tend to think that whippet pups can take people by surprise as they are a bit different to other breeds as puppies. Somehow they are more wiggly and bouncy and squirm and bound and do hair raising acrobatics around the furniture. They do all the other puppy things too, like chew and mouth with pin sharp little teeth, which can be upsetting for young children until the pups are taught boundaries, but whippet pups are that little bit more 'acrobatic' and not always as responsive as other more traditional breeds. I think they are quite a handful as pups and youngsters (which other dogs do the wall of death ,counter surf and do zebedee leaps 6 feet in the air and almost break your nose?) and unless you know their ways they can be right artful dodgers. As long as your Mum knows this, then things should be fine.

Fred's a blue fawn in as much as he had a dark blue mask (which is now grey) and although he is primarily fawn he does have blue hairs in his coat when you look closely.
