ive prob asked this b4 but im going to again lol wot size is your preffered whippet? do u like the the little teeny tiny ones? ie under 20lb? or maybe just a lightweight 21 to 25lb wot about a middleweight 26 to 30lb? i widnt really class 31 to 36lb as a heavyweight or even big but i know some do. or do u prefer 40lb or no limit scratch?

i personally prefer 40lb or no limit scratch well or even 36lb scratch any scratch really as IMO its the fairest of all racing. nobody gets a start the best dog wins JMO.i love my scratch racing :D

MIDDLE WEIGHT TO HEAVY WEIGHT DOG RODDY IS PERFECT 30/31.

UNDER 20 WOULD WORRY ME TO RUN OFF AS THE BIGGUNS FLY IN (w00t)

Whippets are described in all breed books as a small or smallish dog, i am of the opinion that if you want a large whippet type dog then get yourself a Greyhound.

Spot on John

The largest a WHIPPET should be is 32lb. Over this dogs are not WHIPPETS.

WHIPPET racing does not cater for the larger dog - tracks not long enough, traps too small. Nothing against these large dogs - I am sure they are as delightful and agree its good to watch SCRATCH racing in their proper place - on a greyhound track.

Thats Tilly buggered then, she is 32lb, yes a fat ass :b

ok get rid of everything over 32 pound thered be no whippet racing left why dont folk leave well alone  especially the scratch dogs wich are a masive part of whippet racing  i bred a 25 pound bitch to freewheeler 30 pound dog ended up with 3 22 ponders a 40 pounder and a 49 pounder so watch out anyone could end up with a biggun if you want pure whippets get into peds thats my rant :) non ped racing caters for all and we should stick together not try segragating the scratch dogs :( im breeding ballyspot soon shes 32 pound might use a big scratch dog on her you never know might get a decent scratch racer myself :)god the lack of people in the sport now compared to years back should be encouriged not be told to get a greyhound john :( i usually agree with you but i think your out of line with this one and it was u who once said if a labradour turned up it could race no ofence to you john :) i love a lively debate

I didn't realise you were so anti scratch dog John, but yet the IRG cater for these BIG dogs  I love racing scratch dogs and will defend their right to race along side their smaller counterparts fanatically.

well ive always had dogs under 32lb and loved racing em and now i have a dog that is 34lb and i love racing her just as much altho i still gotta get used to running off levels in the scr haha she used to race at 30-31lb but built her up and shes running alot better with more weight on her!!! So im joining the SCR racers!! haha

Told me mum and nan they gotta start scr racing at club so i can run haha

IMO no matter what size you got if you enjoy racing dogs you'll enjoy running any size

I am not anti big dogs Geoff all i am saying that if i wanted a big dog i would get a greyhound and race it with its counterparts, Scratch dog racing was set up when Greyhound blood was introduced into whippet blood so as the occasional dog that went above the max handicap weight could race.

I repeat again that i would sooner have a small dog than a large one, that was the question ask i believe.

I have to say that I love racing all my dogs and I have a scratch dog 36lb 2 pedigree's 26lb and 28lb and a pup that will make about 22lb ish who incidently has a grandmother who is half greyhound and also has been top brood !! breeding both yard per pound dogs ( Rapid Stag,Spirit Of The Stag ) and exellent Scratch dogs like Magical Dreams!!! I have to say it seems to be a strange statement to come out with when you consider how many of the the country's top yards per pound dogs have these scratch /large whippet types very close up in there pedigree's a lot of the time within 3 generations !! so to me this just proves to me that these bigger types are integral to the way non ped racing has evolved into the sport we all know and love whether you love bigguns, littluns,or like me love it all

yes the question was WOT IS YOUR PREFFERED SIZE? NOT WOT U DONT LIKE!

i personally dont like 16lbers but i wudnt say if i had one i wudnt race it!

i must say i love the scratch racing i like waching all the racing 20lbers to no limit dont say i mind what it is.if you want a perfect whippet get a ped

ray

I agree with you Ray, I enjoy ALL the racing from the titchiest to the biggest. :) At present we have scratch dogs and we love them both. Hopefully we will also get involved in the handicap racing side of things and get a smaller dog to complete our whippet family but that is so we can take part in enjoying the whole days events not because we have a preference.

All the best

Marie

As you all probably all know,we both like a good scratch dog! we like big ones becuase our feeding dishes are huge :- "
