I think the best compromise for a new-comer to the sport is to get the pup and ourselves accustomed to the atmosphere at Opens. For myself, confidence is a big issue, we know quite alot of folk from around the counrtry now who are old hands in the sport, and on the whole, I would be happy to ask for help or advice. I think we'll play it by ear, and see how we do at Andover :D thanks Judy  and Gloucester and one or two more through the summer. Might think about August if we are not completely anhialated before that :- "

I think the answer of when to enter the Champs depends on how serious you are.  We entered the dogs we first started racing with (show bred) even though we knew they didn't have a chance of winning - we enjoyed watching them run, and also the faster ones winning - the other owners joy when their dogs won etc.  We enjoyed the watching as much as the taking part, we had friends whose dogs did win and it was great to celebrate with them, and anyway our dogs didn't know that they hadn't won!!  Of course you can still go and watch without running a dog, but as we used to live so far away from the Champs events, that wasn't really an option for us.  Opens are great, but there's something a bit more special about a Champs event.  One thing to mention though is that there's no consolation racing, which means if they don't come first or second - that's it for the day - so you could say it's an expensive trial!!
spot on

Hi Jo, good to see you have entered Fynn in the Gloucester Maiden,if should he happen to win his group he would no longer be eligible for any future Maiden groups, still at quite a young age he would have to race with the elite grouping.this catagory will be the same caliber of entry as at a Champ meeting. The very same happened to his gran, wcrch Final Harmony who won her Miaden at Harvel, (at a tender age) we did enter following meetings at the Elite level, but took back seat for a while whilst she matured a little. Its rather like solo trialling onto multi trials then through the traps etc etc once you take the step you can not go backwards,I can imagine that Fynn has already raced at you club with some good open dogs,he will keep his cool...........if you can (w00t) (w00t) x

Hi Lesley,

Yes I am going to try and keep a lid on it. First time is really hard though. He is so precious to us (and I know that you as his first Mum and Dad will understand that).

Judy is going to send us the entry form for Andover Open, so we'll see you there with our special boy. If he does OK, I'll have to grovel to Judy to change his grouping at Gloucester :- " I don't anticipate it though. So see you in April on your own patch  Fynn will love to see his sisters, but don't be offended if he behaves in an unaccepatable manner. He is outrageously a teenager at the moment, and has a one track mind (w00t)

Don't worry about that Jo - anyone can change their weight group right up to the closing date.
