Be prepared to be come a whippet bore (or is that just me ?  )
Oh don't worry I'm boring anyway  , but seriously I want a snuggle bed for myself they look really comfy. The whippet ones look like a cross between a sleeping bag and a giant envelope.

Hiya and welcome to Whippet World!!!!

Have you decided what if anything you would like to enjoy with your whippy?

Do you fancy racing and coursing?

What about showing?

A supurb companion?

Agility?

A whippet is so versatile he will exell at all the above and will love your company whatever your choice.

If you do have an idea then try to get advise from breeders in this field as their experience will be a huge asset.

All whippys are happy with a caring owner, companionship of human or canine kind,

warm beds, running free every day

good luck :luck: jan

I know what you mean - Ours came this week and have been tempted to get in a few times... Do they come in human sizes Debs? :D

I tried to write this last night but works server was down so it was lost so if Im repeating whatever youve heard I apologise. In your position, Id consider a newborn pup in PREFERANCE to an older dog. With a newborn you will not have to retrain any other persons mistakes. As long as you are prepared to read a lot & maybe attend some puppy classes, you will be fine. Having said that, its is unusual that you would come upon a 'bad' whippet & for that very reason, available 6-12 month olds are often few & far between.

Never thought about that, haven't found any puppy classes round about here though, I am worried about not socializing the dog correctly and classes seem to be the ideal way to do this. I don't drive either which is also a pain, I walk everywhere, but within reason!! I guess I thought that if I buy from a respected breeder there is more chance of me making a mistake in training than the breeder. But then again it seems that you only know how good a breeder is by word of mouth and since I've only really started opening my ears, it's a lot to try and take in & make sense of.

Hi and welcome to K9 . The Peperone whippets live in Dunlop in Ayrshire and Mr and Mrs McLeod attend some of the open shows up here in Scotland and have been in whippets for many years .

If you look on www.theprintshop.uk.com website you will find on-line schedules for the next few Scottish open shows . I'm sure there were some coming up in the Magnum Centre in Irvine . Hope this helps

That's great thanks a lot, I have been told about dog shows at the magnum but I've been struggling to find a schedule, their website seems to have only the schedule for that day (bit strange).

visit your local vet, usually in their waiting room you will find notices of puppy training classes in your area, I can well recommend them as it's the OWNER who gets trained to do right by their dog more than anything else  :D

a lady in my workplace has some pedigree whippets (?about12 ish weeks old now i think) but she's in Liverpool, so that seems a bit too far for anyone to walk !!

Yeah I've heard they like a crafty chew now and again  :- "  don't worry, the only objects I hold dear are locked away in my music room, whippets can't pick locks can they? I'll check the stirling whippet club out, it isn't too far away.
They don't pick locks... but if they're anything like my pup Ruby they're very good at bidding their time esp when they've set their heart on the destruction of particular objects like toilet rolls, pens, baby kids toys and the like! That said she's certainly the easiest pup I've known, she's very laid back. Oh and Puppy classes are great for socialising esp if you can find a nice relaxed one (I didn't take to the army drill ones myself!)

I found my pup from a litter posted on this site she came from a litter bred in East Kilbride. 'Cindy' (stronglane whippets) the moderator for the Caledonian Thistle Pedigree Whippet Racing Club owns her sire and I believe there's a litter sired by him on the go at present.
