Just a quick ask. Grover and Roscoe will be able to go out soon but having read stories of whippets slipping their collars, I'm petrified of losing them

Can anyone advise as to a suitable collar/ harness for a three month old whippy? What do you use/ can you recommend and where can I get them from? Have tried loads of websites but the choice leaves me even more confused!

I got nice puppy collars in pets at home , are they microchipped ?

Not yet - they're only 10 weeks old on Saturday and I've heard if they have it done too young the chip can move...

I am obviously biased but swear by our martigales. They cannot be slipped out of. See the collars R us thread on the market place,

Hi, we got Poppy a harness, she can't get out of it and taught her not to pull on her lead.

Not for everyone but I think they are fab, ours is Puppia, quite expensive but they are cheaper on Ebay!

Also we got Poppy microchipped at 12 weeks and its still in the same place now!

Hope you find something, looking forward to walkies pics!!

we got our girls chipped at 10weeks and the chip is still pretty much in exactly the same place, better to get them chipped in time for going out, just incase they do slip the collar

i would at a guess say that even if the did slip the collar they wouldnt go far,

the first time we took our girls out, we took them down to the beach and OH let the 2 of them of, (i was peeing my pants) but they were fab they never went to far, even when other dogs came by they stayed close

here you can see them :huggles:

the first collars we used were from debs (alfyn on here) but collars r us do the same style, they were fab collars really well made and fitted right, there would be no chance of escape.

i also bought harnesses for them, but it was such a chore getting 2 pups ready to go out in their harnesses that i gave up, pluss you would have a hard job putting a coat over a harness unlessit has a hole in the back for the lead to clip on :b

remember once you decided what to get, post some pics :- " :huggles:

i have a 4month old puppy and got her collar from dawn at collars r us and had no problems :D

I would recommend the Puppia harness. I have an 18 month old whippet who pulled like mad until we got a harness. He walks great on a harness but had a tendency to slip them. I now have 2 from puppia and he hasn't slipped either. If you are really concerned you can get a link from the harness to collar just in case they manage to wriggle free.

Also had mine microchipped at 12 weeks never had a problem. He didn't even flinch (I saw the needle and I would have!)

Good luck.

By coincidence I got a letter from my vet this morning saying they are holding a chipping day on the 4th Dec for 10 quid- the boys will be 11 weeks then. I see some people have had them done at around that age and had no problems - might go for it.

Thanks for all the collar advice - am going to order a couple today.
