Well, may partner and i have been contemplating getting ourselves another little dog for quite a while and we're finally in a position where we are able to give one all the love and attention they deserve. After a couple of weeks of searching through various breeders etc. and, frankly being quite shocked at how people seem to be charging as much as or sometimes more for cross breeds of different dogs (im gonna leave it at that before getting on my soapbox and having a rant at the things some people seem to do in order to make a quick buck), have found a lovely husband and wife breeder who seem to do it out of love rather than to make a quick buck and we will be making the 2 hour drive Sunday or Monday to see the little guys and see if any of them take to us like we've taken to the pictures we have seen of them.

They are Cavalier king charles spaniels and we are looking to get us a black and tan boy, neither of us can wait now. Been toying with names this evening and so far Banjo seems to be the favourite, although i like Stark (after Tony aka iron man, lol) but my partner and her daughter are having none of that, lol.

Anyway, if we do get one, and as soon as we do, will make sure to post plenty of pictures of the little guy on here as if you are all anything like us, then your probably suckers for seeing pictures of peoples pooches as much as we are, lol.

Hopefully watch this space.....

How exciting - there is nothing nicer than getting a puppy!

I like the name Stark - what else is in the offing?

Well done for doing some good research and finding a breeder that fits your own core beliefs...

Welcome to Dog Forum! :) I am Anna :)

Hello and welcome. My name is Chris.

So pleased you've gone for a cavies. They are such special little dogs and hopefully will be our next dog too!

I will always always promote testing in the parents especially for eye and heart problems as although it doesn't guarentee a healthy pup it does go some way to minimising the risk of your pup picking up something.

Welcome to the forum and I hope you enjoy your time here.

Well, we all managed to wing days off or leave work early yesterday so took a trip and here's what we came back with. Had every intention of getting a black and tan but when we met them it was between a ruby and this little guy. Sounds strange but it was like he choose us rather than us choosing him. While we were there talking to the breeder you could see them all running around and playing and stuff and this little guy was just lurking in the background as if he was checking us out before he went up to Mich and cuddled into her, then he went over to her daughter and give her a cuddle, he looked at me went back to Mich then came over and i give him a little pet, his tail started wagging a bit and he went back and loved the fuss Mich and her daughter started giving him. Was more to it than that but the three of us just looked at each other and Mich said 'looks like this guy has choosen us', so home he came.

He's settling in lovely after the initial 'where the hell am i, what on earth is going on' reactions you get when taking a puppy to their new home, didnt hear a peep out of him all night and never seen a guy so pleased to meet his humans when we went to greet him this morning. Sounds lame for a 40 year old guy but im falling in love all over again, lol.

Anyway, meet King Banjo Stark of Blaenpennal, or as he's known to us, Banjo. Once we get the camera sorted im sure there will be plenty of photos and videos of him popping up occasionally.

Oh my, Banjo is lovley!

Congratulations.

I am a strong believer that the right dog will choose you and not the other way around. So it doesn't sound silly at all!

How did he settle his first night?

How many times were you up during the night? lol

I'd love to hear a progress report on the young lad!

:)

Aww cheers,

Fair play to him, we didn't hear a peep out of him all night and we were up about half 7 this morning. He's settling in great bless him. He's so dopey, went to go in the kitchen from the living room to make a cuppa and he started crying a little bit, he hasn't worked out yet that he could easily just follow us. Toilet training is going to be fun tho, how can i put this, he doesn't like to perform in front of an audience, lol. You can tell he wants to go and he'll start to make those little whimpering noises puppies do so take him out the back and pretend not to look and he just comes straight back in, in fairness to the guy it is freezing and there's a bit of snow in the air at the moment as well, lol. He has a pad by the back door as well but if he can see anyone he doesn't have any of it and under the kitchen table seems to be his preferred spot at the moment, he cant see us from under there but he doesnt realise we can still see him. Was so funny just now and i got to get a video of him doing it, he has got this chewy little toothbrush toy thing and he loves it so he was there playing around with it and as he gets tired he just flops himself over and lies on the rug chewing it and can see him fighting to stay awake to keep on chewing. Little guy is flat out in his little basket at the minute with my partners daughter (who is 20) just looking at him smiling, give it 5 minutes and she'll have him up on her lap, lol.

Not even been 24 hours and can already see and feel we've made a good choice getting him, house has felt like there was something missing for so long and its already starting to feel like that gap's being filled big time.

Time for me to get myself ready for work now so he's going to be left with the girls. Work is gonna suck so much today cos will be getting all these text's with what he's doing or done and im just gonna be stuck there missing out on it all, never mind, im sure there will be plenty more where that came from.

Sounds like you have it sussed and that he has settled in well.

Make the most of his puppyness as I am sure it won't last long.

Keep us updated as I am sure we'd all like to see pictures.

Hope work isn't too long for you!

Oh he is utterly beautiful and I love the name Banjo - My other half teaches the Banjo - I hope he isn't as loud as the instrument!!

I am looking forward to lots of stories about your new addition!!!

Awwwww, how sweet is he?

Good luck with the toilet training- it sounds like you may have fun with that. I wouldn't want to spend much time out there in this weather though, would you?

Here's a couple more pictures. Someone went to the pet shop earlier and spent a chunk of their wages on toys for him, i wont mention any names as i would have probably done the same if i was off work and she was working today, lol. Still shy when it comes to him doing his business but at least he's starting to go on the pads now. My partners granddaughter came down the house earlier and she is now in love. If i recall, conversation went something like:

- nan, can i take him home with me please

- no

- but i love him

Apparently he really took to her and was following her wherever she went, not that she was complaining. He also is now the proud owner of some monkey toy thing thats bigger than him (not that it takes much) and when he's done playing with it, he drags it into his basket and curls up with it to sleep.

Granddaughter lives about a mile up the road and so he went for a little run in the car with them when they took her home as well. Anyway, just got up to get a drink and someone was really pleased to see me and i know i shouldnt have cos he needs to learn night is for sleeping but what the heck, he's settling in so well in just over 24 hours, was anticipating much, much worse (and im a sucker!) so i put laptop on to add some more pics before i head back to bed:

Like my scarf? It was the smallest one there but its still HUGE on me ('dad' has promised he's going to get me an awesome one when im bigger)

Really got to try and get a video of him in action with his monkey to upload, one of those things that has to be seen to be believed.

Great pictures - keep them coming!

Hows potty training going?

He's still shy but at least he's going on the pad by the back door most of the time, getting some slip ups but thats to be expected. He's starting to run around the house like a loon as well, so he's really starting to find his feet now, lol

Of all the toys he's got, he's suddenly taken a shining to Michelles pj's, lol

I love that picture.

A proper puppy game! lol

I must say he sounds like he is getting his fair share of love and cuddles and then some!
