Hi there.

We have a 18 week old cocker spaniel who sleep wise has been brilliant up until this week. He stayed at my partners dads who despite being told under no circumstance he slept in his crate, decided to let him sleep in his bed. Ever since our dog has barked every hour of the night. At first wasn’t sure if it was him letting us know he needs the toilet but it seems as if when one of us goes down he’s just getting us up to try come to our bed with us. A bad habit taught by father in law, what do we do ? Any advice would be brilliant thank you!

He is still very young, and being alone in the night can be scary - if it weren't for human intervention, puppies would stay with their mother and littermates for a lot longer; so being alone is quite unnatural for them.

If you want him to sleep in a crate, can you have the crate in your room so you can reassure him? It may be that he is barking for attention; but its because he needs you rather than because he's trying to push your buttons.
