i got up this morning and opened the door to a horendous smell comming from kitchen only to find one puppy covered in diarohea lucky she was in her crate after spending one hour cleaning up and bathing the pup and airing the house i tried to think what i had given her the day before you might remember me posting a topic on flaky skin and alot of you suggested sardines which i started giving her only one on each meal but yesterday i gave her a whole tin oil and all could this be the mistake i made also with her only being 12 weeks on wednesday should i starve her for 24 hours or give her something else . :x

Awwww, poor little Jazz :huggles:

She'll need plenty of water to rehydrate herself but I'd keep her food plain for now, just chicken and boiled rice.

If she doesn't want to eat and the diahorrea continues then it maybe that she is poorly and needs to see the vet.

Hopefully it was just the sardines and she'll recover over the next 24 hours

I have always fed my girls raw chicken wings, lamb cutlets, green tripe, raw lamb or turkey mince and raw diced lamb liver. I also add bone meal (Wafcol) Their coats are very shiny and silky and I put this down to feeding raw with no additives. I have always fed a complete dry food to my other dogs and the difference with feeding raw is noticeable with Ella and Jinny :D

I hope Jazz recovers quickly :luck: :luck:

DITTO ALL OF THE ABOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

what a rotten start to a sunday morning for you both - mine was just as bad with a crack of dawn call to say my horse and donkey had escaped their field - dont you just hate rude awakenings - i need to sleeeeeeeeep now! -_-

but back to you - a little oily fish is great but not a whole tin and only couple of times a week but a good idea is to give fish oil in form of a capsule - you can prick the end of the capsule and add half to a meal once per day till about 9 months then graduate toa whols capsuly - thats complete fish oil and not just cod liver oil.

Mine get sardines or pilchards in tomato sauce.

I don't use all of the sauce as that can give them runny bum and they also don't get a full tin each as this can cause runny bum even in my older ones.

I'd stick to little and often when the pup is young and don't give them all the oil or whatever the fish is in...its the fish thats whats really good for them and not vast quantities of the oil etc that its in.

If you feel your pup needs supplimented oils then your best looking at Dorwest Herbs wheatgerm or evening primrose oil, I use these and have had no ill effects from them.

I'd also leave the pup for at least 12 hours before offering something very bland, so its tummy can settle and rest from all the upset. I

Its cheaper just to buy a bottle of cod liver oil and add a slug to their meal every so often. Mine will eat anything covered in fish oil.
