its different on each track and weights and size of pups, so depends which track you go to, most pupss time over150 and not 160

:) She will be 1 in January, I've had her coming out of the traps about six times now and she is passing my other dog with ease, her weight is 38 1/2 lbs at the moment and seems to be keeping that weight, Just wondered if anyone could give me a rough ideal what time i should be looking at. many thanks Diane.

Hiya Di

It's always nice if you get a pup doing phenominal times but my biggest advice to you would be forget about times, there are so many factors that contribute ie track conditions, racing in company, who's timing, lots of spectators etc. The amount of people who start spouting times off is unreal, if i listened to half the people who've come and told me what times our competitors were doing, i'd never run off (w00t) .

The only thing i'd advise any newcomer would be, be as sure as you can be that your dog is honest when you eventually enter her in an open and don't rush her - so many young dogs get ruined by selfish owners throwing them in at the deep end

Best of luck with her, i look forward to watching her progress next year

At the tracks where we train our dogs, the handicapper normally knows roughly the times that other pups have done over the years, and I imagine other racers where you train would have some idea too. One of the things that i found interesting when trying to gauge how our pups were doing is the amount of variables that affect times that might be done............like wind, rain, heavy tracks, hard tracks, what's on the lure, what they had for breakfast and how much they nicked out of the bin etc. Think thats one of the things that keeps you on your toes, cos you still think about them when theyr'e all grown up!! lol

TO TRUE ,WE PUT OURS BEHIND THE LURE WHEN THEY ARE SET UP,11 MONTH +++

IMO I LIKE TO FREE RUN STRAIGHT AWAY SO THEY FIND THERE OWN LEGS AS THEY GROW. OUR BENTLEY IS GALLOPING 70/80 YARDS AT 71/2 MONTH,WILL THINK ABOUT PUTTING HIM BEHIND THE LURE FEB NEXT YEAR WHEN HE SHOULD BE SET UP, IF R MEEK SAYS HIS NOT READY HE WILL BE LATER. NOTHING TO RUN FOR WHY RUSH  HE IS 30 LB ++. WHEN HE GOES BEHIND THE LURE HOPEFULLY HE WILL BE STRONG AND READY AND NO WOBBLES  AT AYCLIFFE THE BEST CLOSE TO 9.00 AVERAGE 9.4 /9.7 SCHOOLER BREAK 10 OK AS THEY WILL IMPROVE AS THEY GO ON. DONT END UP WITH YOUR HEAD IN YOUR HANDS ,TIME AND PATIENCE

:) I would like to say thank you to all of you who have given me advise, can i just say DavidH that like you all my dogs have free runs from the day they've had there jabs so by 10 months, Leia has very good control of her back legs, very neatly tucked under her body, and because she chases my big girl (Magpie), Leia as learned to turn with good balance. :)

I under stand what you and Vicky are saying, I am taking it steady and i won't rush her. ;) I thought Steve had got the time wrong when he said 8.4,

many thanks all. Diane

some good advice there. like many say times mean nowt but if your dog does the same time or faster each week then u know the dog is improving but if it was alot lot slower then your dog may have picked up an injury. so times imo can b helpful. also every dog is different some say dont run them till a certain age etc but my 47lber was running @ 9 months old like i say every dog is different lots of free running imo certainly helps.good luck with your dog and let us know wot times they r doing lol :luck:

lots of luck :luck: with her next year Diane Im sure she will do you proud!

aycliffe times over 165 yds, if a pup breaks 9 over 150 after 2/3 times out of the traps its doing ok.
