Had to take Nell one of my rescued retired greyhounds to the vet yesterday. Time had caught up with her and she had become very wobbly and kept falling over. I held her whilst the vet put her to sleep :'( and I knew I was doing the best thing for her but my heart broke.
Nell came into the kennel where I, my OH and Joe my son spent almost every weekend for 3 years. I had already brought 2 dogs home :b but there was something about her......... wherever I went her eyes followed, I could feel her watching me whilst I cleaned every kennel in turn and I told my OH she would have to come home with us. Poor Nell had been found in Doncaster as a stray and was a proper bag of bones when we brought her home. Her racing name was Macsea Millie and she had found her way from Ireland and ended up with us. I hope you dont mind if I share a few memories.......
Nell being badgered by Ozzy when he was a pup
and a few years later having a quiet moment
Nell had had some terrible injuries, a massive scar over her shoulder and a toe missing, she walked with a funny snake like gait, which made me wonder what on earth had happened to her before we got her - but Im so glad she found her way here and I know she was happy with us. I was honoured to be with her at the end. R.I.P Nell, we will miss you.
