It is quite amazing that with all that damage the only man who died, was not actually killed by the cyclone, he has poisoned himself by locking himself in small room with diesel generator. There was a couple reported missing, but they were now accounted for. But there will be some very difficult questions about town planning and how and where people will be able to build.

Australia is really one big disaster in this moment; we had a bit of a rain here last night, many parts of Melbourne had flash floods, and there is lot more problems in the country. I went to a dog show this morning, turned a corner and there was what looked like a huge but shallow puddle, well I only had few seconds to decide what to do. So i drove right into it, bad decision, got half way when the car stalled with the water just smidgen under the door. Had to take my shoes off, roll up my jeans and push it out. I am sure it sort of floated bit, because it was quite easy. After i managed to start it again, got to the KCC park only to find it all under water and the show cancelled. That is the first time in 40 years of showing that show was cancelled - as far as I know. there may have been some I was not entered.

I know someone who's first wife was like a cyclone. He said it started with just a little blow job, & by the time she left she had taken everything................ :clown:

No damage to my car, and as i live only 15km from KCC Park, not much to worry about, but i wonder how many people drove from some distance, braving the flooded roads, only to find a KCC Lake. I did listen the radio and even turned on the TV on News Channel in the morning, but from what they said and shown of Melbourne it did not look all that bad. Later on I found out that night the area where KCC Park is, had the highest rainfall out of Melbourne, or it may have been whole Victoria. And it is still raining from Queensland through NSW to Victoria, except in those areas in NSW where there are bush fires. That was the situation last night.

I have to admit I used to wonder why would people drive into water. I looked at the white line and it seemed only inch or so under water, which of-course was an optical illusion, and by the time i realised it was too late. And i imagine at night, in heavy rain, wet road does not look much different from water over the road.

Suburban Perth is on fire, Adelaide and Sydney are suffering heat waves (6 straight days in Sydney), Victoria is flooding, and Queensland has had floods, flash floods, and cyclones.

How much more can this country cope with I wonder?

The report this evening on "Sunday Night" about the helicopter rescue team who saved 28 people in two hours in harrowing conditions at Grantham had me crying like a baby again - you know when babies cry so hard that they can hardly catch their breath?

What a terrible, terrible thing they all endured - rescuers and victims.

Well what an experience and one I will never face again if possible, as Lana has said the dogs and myself are fine, they did a lot better then me infact. I moved the dogs and myself into the hall way of the house at about 8pm as the wind was intense with the house shuttering, heard glass breaking and and the roof sounded like it was going to fly off, dogs were all crated with two beside me on the mattress on the floor, spent the night just reassuring them and my hand holding onto the corner of the walls (how that was going to help I still don't know) The main noise from the roof was the solar hart being torn from the roof, (found that the next day in the neighbours yard) and trees mainly from my neighbours place crashing into my yard - I'm still without power but have managed to clear the deck of glass so dogs can be up there to catch any breeze to keep cool until power comes back on. While in search of some essentials on Saturday morning at a Supermarket I slipped on water on the floor and hurt my knee and ankle, so now I'm bruised and battered as well. First day back at work, of course they had to get power on damn it

Now been catching up on news outside of Townsville and can't believe what has been going on, hope the people in Victoria and Western Australia are ok and stay safe, can't say it's been a good summer yet here in Oz. I'm hoping that by the time I go home from work we have power again and I can catch up on more and check on others in affected areas around Australia.

Good to hear from you Cristina and that you are all ok. Sounds like a terrifying time and we are so lucky that the worst part of this massive system didn't move through the heart of one of the major centers. It's hard to comprehend how much damage there may have been. Don't forget that dogs qld members affected can apply for some small funding support, worth trying, and may help with some of the repair costs. Good luck with getting everything back to normal.
