would you give raw egg to puppies....or dogs for that matter??

Well Ive always fed raw eggs mixed with milk for my dogs - just a couple of times a week maybe, and theyve always been ok.

Make sure the eggs are totally fresh though, and raw eggs can give them the runs now and then.

Its the worry now with salmonella I suppose, and I wouldnt overdo it it with puppies maybe. Cooked scrambled egg would probably be better for the pups or lightly poached.

Thanks....

I was told to give raw egg to tilly when i first got her but she was about 4 months....Bean is just 8wks, so i gave her poached egg instead :)

Alfie is given a raw egg now and again. I usually punch a small hole (with a screwdriver) in the shell and he has great fun getting the yolk through the hole

Isn't raw egg white toxic to dogs???? I only feed cooked eggs

I don't think that it's toxic Dessie. I know a couple of people who feed raw eggs to their dogs. I have done as well. Normally I make up scrambled egg and feed that to them. I have to fight my way to the microwave to get the dish back out though. It's their fav.

Be interesting to know if it defo is toxic??

I think the yolk is the best part of the egg for dogs (having read up a bit on this recently, haven't heard of the white being toxic though!), and a fresh raw egg once a week or so is good for them, especially if they are on a raw food diet. I personally wouldn't mix it with milk (sorry Janis) as cow's milk can give them the squits. Goat's milk is meant to be much more digestible than cow's milk. It was certainly the case with my pup who had awful, sudden diarrhoea when i gave him some cow's milk.

Everyone has different views with feeding...it must get quite confusing

Raw egg white contains an enzyme that destroys biotin but I think you would have to feed quite a few of them before it had much effect.

Ours love raw eggs, but do only get them occaisionally or when they raid the hen house!!

BTW they eat them shell and all (w00t)

I am happy to give mine the odd raw egg - but only occasionally. Same as most things as long as it isn't given exclusively and in vast quantities it should be okay.

When I was young it was always easy to spot the dog which had been stealing the eggs from the chicken house due to their wonderfully shiny coats!

BTW goats milk is much better as the fat globules are much much smaller which makes it easier to digest.

I gave Evie scrambled egg with goats milk when she was small, she still likes it now with a bit of grated cheese in. Never given her a raw egg though.

Thanks for the tips about the milk (dont give it that often though) - Jo I will try the goats milk - I sometimes give the raw egg on its own.

I used to feed it more often when I had my little racing bitch and she was a littly flyer. was always told by the older men in the sport - add a dash of sherry too
