Raw food for allergies?

Hi all,

we just got results from Diesels allergy tests. We guessed he was sensitive to some environmental allergens such as grass, weeds and dust but didn’t expect so many common foods to be flagged.

He’s always been slightly itchy but nothing major apart from ear flare-up during pollen season which is controlled well with Apoquel.

meats he shouldn’t have are chicken, beef, lamb, pork and white fish.
His regular diet is mainly natural instinct chicken and lamb as we prefer a prepared meal rather than prep ourselves.

now on the hunt for an equivalent based on something like venison, rabbit, goat etc. Only brand I’ve found in Benyfit but they seem around double the price of natural instinct.

anyone know any decent cost effective prepared raw foods based on non standard meats?

Its not raw but Gentle has introduced a Goat version if you are stuck.

Yes was just reading about that. We also need to find a dry kibble that he can handle for times we don’t feed raw such as when travelling (too messy!) so might give it a go.

Well, one of Gentle's USPs is that you can feed it as an alternative to raw sometimes.

It's a tricky one... I know you want a prepared mince, but was wondering if you could find someone who sells whole rabbits, divvy them up into meal-sized portions, and feed them outside where they won't make a mess (or get him to eat in an easily-moppable area). Or get yourself a powerful mincer.....

It's not for the faint-hearted. We tried it at one time... but Jasper wouldn't want to eat the organs but still guarded them, and dragged them all round the kitchen, leaving the floor looking like a scene from a horror movie. Not much better was the time OH swung his cleaver into a rabbit and went through the heart, resulting in another horror-movie scene with extra splatter.

I'm not selling it well, am I?

Our lot are not keen on lungs from any large animal, I think it must be the spongy texture. If I do try to feed some chunks for speed and convenience, I sometimes find that a couple of the girls will sick the chunks up about 1/2 hour later or maybe one of the others will clear it up. They will all eat it if it is gently boiled. However, if the lungs are minced with other raw products they will eat them with no problem.

We are getting loads of pheasants at the moment, they have no value to many of our game keepers so they are FREE. We skin them, remove the breasts and thighs (for human consumption) and mince the rest, (whole body from the bottom to the head), I do sometimes remove the part of guts that contains the actual poo, if I have time. And as ours are working gun dogs, I also mix in some other meat (lungs, liver, kidney) just to disguise the fact that they are eating pheasants.
If you have a freezer large enough and can find a couple of game keepers, now is the time to stock up.
As already mentioned by @JudyN , wild rabbits chopped into portions, (no need to mince), but these will have to be bought.
This can all be very messy but very rewarding when watching the dogs enjoy their daily meal.

Have you looked at the "KIEZEBRINK UK LTD" site for out of the ordinary meats.
