Just started a recycling new page at our school-

Do you have any good ones-perhaps a bit unusual etc please?

E.g

a divan bed makes a great rabbit/guinea pig run -first treat the wood, then attach mesh panels to the sides-

another-

hair clippings from your hairdresser are great around young plants to protect form slugs.....

karen

p.s

try this site out too-cracking idea......

www.freecycle.org

We recycle anything that you can plant things in e.g mushroom/tomato cartons, for seeds, 2 old tyres(got strawberries in those), old picnic hamper basket taking room up in the house is now in the garden housing lettuces :D

Shredded paper goes for the ferrets :)

We've just pulled our pantry down and the bricks ect are going to be the foundations to level our garden up for a patio :)

We compost what we can, recycle the usual stuff paper, tins, glass ect.

When an air freshener has run out of liquid I pull the wick out and put it in the hoover because it is soaked with smelly stuff and works really well :D

Waste not want not

I put Stan's stripped coat out in the garden in spring, and the birds use it for their nests. :)

I avoid supermarkets where I can and shop locally, using my own shopping bags, so I don't have too much plastic to try and recyle or eventually throw out. o:) Prevention is better than a cure in my book.

Egg boxes get used as seed trays.

Guinea pig waste goes into the compost.

I can't think of anything original...I just try and avoid buying gimmicky items that i know will have to be thrown out eventually. I refuse to accept plastic bags from retailers and always take my own along.

I'll browse the website for some ideas.

I am quite rubbish really, but I am now taking my own bags to the supermarket. In thebusiness, I use ALL recycled material to pack up mail order goods. I use plastic trays from the supermarket for seeds, and will always keep a tin or plastic container to keep cakes/scones in. We do compost (mostly), and recycle glass etc.

I always feel guilty about egg cartons...................suggestions are welcome for recycling :D

reminds me of when I was a kid, dad made us stilts....tin cans upside down with a loop of string for the handles....we wanted for nothing

also when we wanted Scholls he put our feet against a piece of 4 x 2" and cut it to size (no round edges tho') and tacked a piece of material over the top...they were more like chinese sandals, but all the kids in our street wanted a pair (w00t)

we wanted a swimming pool, we got a swimming pool....two long planks of wood balanced across the corner of a dwarf wall in the garden and some bricks, large plastic sheet draped over, filled with water hey presto, a pool, endless hours of fun :D

you dont have to put the cherry in

freebie cds make excellent danglies for the garden to keep birds away, an upturned cola bottle with the bottom cut out gives a steady amount of water to plants if going away etc

old socks on a piece of cane makes an excellent duster

old trainers (rubber soled) also get up dog hairs from carpets and car boots!

So I heard, and I put them on my almond tree to keep the parrots away. They ate not only the almonds but also the CDs

could be (w00t) I've got 3 sisters, so guess my parents had to be resourceful, but our sledge was wooden....hey did you have a go-kart made from pram wheels ?

one of my proudest things he made was a dolls house with little green roof tiles (made from stick on floor tiles cut down) that hinged open at the back and had real working tiny light bulbs inside, he said he 'helped Santa make it'

I was so pleased my dad knew Santa that well (w00t) :- "

If they are the cardboard type you can compost those Jo, same with toilet roll middles

My girls are the experts in preparing the toilet roll middles for re-cycling.

But I think you can also use them as tubes for seedlings - well out of the reach of Whippets though. :)

It's not recycling as such but I always use vinegar to clean my windows.
