Hi All
Firstly I got my dog(Doru) in Dec 2024 for Romina.Hes roughly about 15 month old ,
He's a lovely dog good with other dogs, humans not so much(males)

I only have one problem with him where we live the roads full of big tractors and large noisy wages .He's ok with them wen where outside walking.but wen the go passed due the day he's frightened off them and spends all day looking up at ceiling.

Sometimes it's noisy and he ok then I might drop some on the floor and he runs a mile .

A few things you could try...

Maybe play music that could block out the sounds? Would it be possible for him to spend more time towards the back of the house where the road noise is quieter?

I wonder if you could get him to associate the traffic noise with good things - when a noisy vehicle goes past, give him a really tasty treat. If you do this often enough, he'll feel a lot happier about the noise. Not so good if the traffic is constant all day though. I also suspect it could be the vibration of the house that worries him, rather than the sound.

Distraction and general physical/mental stimulation can help - play games with him, teach him tricks, make a small agility circuit round the furniture, give him a stuffed Kong or a bone to gnaw on. These can be stress-relieving in themselves, and make him more likely to settle.

You could also try a calming method such as Adaptil - it comes in different forms, I'm not sure which works best: ADAPTIL - Experts In Dog Wellbeing | Thundershirt & ADAPTIL. There are also a number of supplements such as scullcap & valerian, though their effects might be a bit too subtle. If you think it warrants it, you could ask your vet for a mild sedative, though these can have mixed results so it may be a last resort.

What a handsome dog Doru is! Thanks for rescuing him. I agree with @JudyN apart from the music which wouldn't work in my situation - we have tractors and agricultural traffic near us, music would have to be loud to block that out! If my neighbours did this, I'd be up in arms!

I think patience, comforting you're dog during these scary times and rewards to reinforce that there's nothing scary going on should help. I would hope over time your dog gets used to the noise, it being part of daily life. With rescue dogs we don't know their history (you can guess a bit as he doesn't like men) so perhaps this fear relates to his past life.

Please keep us updated with how you get on.
