I have been looking through various ads for puppies etc and I am appalled at how many of the breeders are putting "ready in time for Xmas" in their ads. Just wondered what everyone else thinks?

Absolutely disgusts me :(

I always ring up our local paper when they run all these Christmas ads and make them aware that it is really not on, they never remove them though... bet they love me!!

i agree thats awful. im just waiting to see how many dogs cum into the home after xmas its bloody disgusting that they should be allowed to advertise em like that

Dreadful  ..... then I wonder how many of them will be looking for a new home AFTER CHRISTMAS IS OVER...

I dont know about others but Id never dream of getting a puppy at Christmas. (w00t)

If we have any pups ready for xmas we always state that they are NOT xmas pressies, and always question people about why they want a puppy anyway.

mine will be ready mid dec , i will not let them go unless i know they have a christmas like me , nice and quiet , at home with the family.

i am prepared to keep them over christmas if need be and will make 100% sure they will NOT be christmas pressies .

it is disgracefull

you get a lot of dogs in rescue at this time of year , some are thrown out ready for the new pups arrival , then the new pups end up in rescue feb / march time ,, some people

I agree, it's appalling to blatantly advertise Christmas puppies

We stop rehoming dogs/cats about 2 weeks before Xmas to try to avoid any problems. If someone is absolutely genuine after the homevisit then we will let them rehome closer to C'mas but really prefer them to wait till the new year & see if they are still as keen then :- "

If I had a litter at the time ready for Xmass, I would seriously think about keeping it quiet, and only announce them after New Year. The whole idea that a new puppy is brought home in middle of the Xmass chaos is just too disturbing.

Of-course, there is no reason why would people love a dog they got for Xmass any less than a dog they got on any other day of the year. It all comes down to vetting the new home properly.

It was a touch and go with this litter, i could see Callista getting ready for her season already in August, but she did it perfectly, waited till September, and they will be 2 months on 10th of January. :)

I DO have a problem with advertising for Christmas, but as for letting pups go around Christmas I think it would depend on the family. Not everyone has a chaotic Christmas. Sometimes that's a good week or two that the family has off from work depending on their job. Our Christmas's are very quiet - just the two of us unless Nick is working.

Sometimes that Christmas break is actually a good thing depending on the people who are adopting, so I certainly wouldn't write it off.

That's so depressing, it's positively encouraging people to give cute puppies as Christmas presents

Christmas puppies so often end up as rescues a few months (or sometimes only weeks) later once the novelty and cute factor has worn off. Sadly we also see a lot of old dogs dumped over the Christmas period - out with the old and in with the new. :( :(

I agree that Christmas isn't necessarily a bad time to settle in a new dog or puppy in the right circumstances, but I suspect people advertising 'ready for Christmas' are looking at sales, not the dogs' best interests.

in my home christmas or any holiday is good as we tend to have a very quiet one , only time i go out is christmas day , next door to my mum and das for 3 hours for christmas dinner (w00t)

but there are so many homes who have many visitors or go away etc . i wont be effectivly advertising my pups untill the new year but if a home that has been recommended comes up i will asess the type of christmas they are having and decide then if i want them to wait untill the new year

I agree with what you are saying there Wendy. Despite having two kids our christmas's are usually spent doing loads of walking. And with the kids off school for two weeks there is always plenty of quality time available. I think it is important to judge each situation on its own merit and be prepared to say no.

Although I totally agree with not advertising or selling any animal as a christmas present.

I can very much understand a breeders concern to selling over christmas and yes it is extremly discusting when puppys/dogs are just abbandond a dog should be loved and treasured like a child I am looking for a puppy around this time of year as it is the only time of year i have the money to buy a pup i have always been around dogs untill i moved out of my moms house and now i have the right space for one i want one myself as a pet as some of you have already pointed out some ppls christmas is not as hectic as other for example i am a single lady and i will go to my moms for 2 3 hours tops on christmas day and then come home i dont drink alcohol or smoke and i dont celebrate the new year i do work but only 6 hours a week 2 hrs on Wed, Thur & Fri so i have plenty of time love and affection for a puppy who needs it everyones circumstances are different so i think you should look at an individual before you decide to sell a pup not just at christmas but any other time of the year aswell :))
