Hi there

This is a general question. Have any of you or do you know of anyone who has tried to adopt a Sponsor Dog from a dog charity?

If so, did they have problems?

Sometimes the Sponsor Dogs look so appealling I was just wondering if they are allowed to be adopted as the more appealling dogs must be an advantage to the charity getting more much needed funds in to help the dogs.

(Please note, I am not slagging off dog charities here, I currently give regular money to alot of them and believe alot of them do wonderful and admirable work)

No idea what the policy is re adoption of sponsor dogs generally, the RGRT seem to give me sponsor dogs who are, for various reasons, 'unhomeable'. My last one was Tess and she lived for years in kennels, but couldn't live in a home. The one I have now has hang-ups too, so perhaps their policy is to give these dogs to sponsors for their lifetime, but I haven't actually asked them! I'll give you the name of my latest sponsored dog if you like!!!!

you usualy fined the sponsor dogs are for some reson long termers maybe they wont settal in a home or need a specail home for one reson or another. some may be o long term medication. If you contack the rescue involved they will tell you why the dogs a sponsor but there can be many reson all very individual but oem do get homed

Several years ago I got a letter from Dogs Trust to say that the dog that I sponsored had been rehomed. Strange thing was that someone I worked with sponsored the same dog and they were never told this

I've been sponsoring dogs with Dogs' Trust for many years and of the 8 or so I've had, 2 have been adopted according to letters I've had about them. One was a GSD (the first dog I sponsored) and one a greyhound. I've only sponsored greyhounds after the first GDS and only the one has found a home but I think. as someone else said, they are sponsor dogs as they have long-term problems that make adoption difficult.

The rest of the ones I've had have died at a good age in the Dogs' Trust care. My current greyhound is quite elderly but seems well cared for (Brock).

Has anyone visited their sposored dog? Next time I get one I'm going to ask for one nearer home so I can go see it!! 8)

oh, yes, plse send a link of the your latest sponsored dog! :))

We recently sponsored Mr Magoo from Dogs Trust who is gorgeous. He is a bit too far away to visit as he is in Shrewsbury at the Roden centre and I am in Surrey. Maybe if I am ever that way...

I heard from someone that they fell in love with their Sponsor Dog but were not allowed to adopt even though they fitted the relevant criteria for the dogs needs. That's what prompted me to ask about this.

It is good to hear that some of you have heard about the sponsored dogs being rehomed.

I once sponsered a dog through dogs trust and was told he'd moved kennels after I just stopped getting letters etc about him (I hadn't cancelled or come to the end of my sponsership), I also got fed up of recieving the various leaflets of intrest they kept posting me. Mainly the" please remember us in your will ones". Bit disheartening being as I was only 12 at the time. My mum wrote to complain and they did send me some "personal" photos of the dog.
