MY Beautifal Greyhound girl had to be pts about 2 hours ago. She was such a strongwilled and Happy Greyhound all her life. We had her at two as she was naughty on the racetrack. Well she turned her head to the others whilst racing. She was a big girl in her heyday too. Sadly old age and frailty took over and her back legs started to wobble and then she took a tumble and grazed her knuckle and just wouldnt walk on it. So we had no choice but it was the right time. Its never easy to lose a much loved pet and she certainly was an ambassador for the breed. She had appeared in 2001 with two of my other greyhounds also sadly departed, in a well known dog magazine and I was the proudest of owners. I shall when I feel better look to give another a home though as there are so many that deserve to have a lovely life such as my Josie had. I will miss her terribly but know in my heart that we made the right decision.

How sad, but sort of lovely to think what a good life she enjoyed and one day another will be so lucky

Thanks guys for all your lovely messages. It means a lot to me as my dogs are my life and having taken them from bad situations, over the years I have brought them back to lead a happy and healthy life where possible. Its been really hard for me as Josie was the 3rd dog Ive lost from my doggy family this year through illness or old age. I guess I am lucky that she was 14 and 2 months, a good age for a Greyhound but I shall miss her dreadfully.

Thanks again Guys, most appreciated.

There seam to be a lot of the old guys going at the momnet think the change in weathers to much for the old guys she was a very good age RIP Josie

just keep doing what you are doing, no better a tribute to the ones youve lost than to give a new lease of life to an otherwise lost and broken animal :luck:

Thinking of you at this sad time.

Run free with the wind Josie, you are now at Rainbow Bridge with your friends.

Think of all the good times you had with her.

RIP JOSIE  XX

Thank you to those that sent such lovely messages and thoughts. It does mean a lot when you lose a much loved pet to know that people do care and know how you feel. You do your best for your dog and its one of the worst things of pet ownership. I know it was her time, but it doesnt really make it any better. To suffer the pain of losing a much loved pet is bad enough but if people take the attitude its only a dog, etc, its not very helpful, so thanks again for those that have sent a little message. I know that you dont know me, but its lovely to know that there are people out there that do care, so thanks so much again.

Oh Thanks so much and I truly am sorry to hear about your sad news too and to take the time and trouble to reply to my posting, thats what makes this forum so good that nice people can talk about how they feel.

I had a very bad year losing three dogs, one 13, one only 6 and josie 14 and now got the news of Honey. I guess my rescued dog family are just all getting old now and it doesnt seem to get any easier losing them.

I hope that time will ease for you too. I have a whippet and love her to bits. A little rescue that was cruelly left for dead in 2002. She is the sweetest dog ever no vices and a great ambassador for whippets. I just love them.

I'm so sorry to hear about Josie, and your dog who is having the op. One of our greys died 3 weeks ago, he had bone cancer and had only been diagnosed three weeks before.

Haycroft also - I'm sorry to hear about your whippet. There seem to be so many doggy deaths lately.

Thinking of you all xx And good luck to your dog having the op. xx

Oh I am truly sorry to hear about your loss. My lovely Blue greyhound died of Bone cancer it was in the the shoulder. Started with an unexplained limp until xrayed and then like your bad news, not long till we lost her. Then I lost my lovely 6 year old the baby of the pack to lymphoma, then josie was 14 but her legs had gone but it never gets any easier losing them does it.. Only at the end of last week did I notice a lump had appeared overnight and I was down the vets the next day, straight after losing josie, which was hard, but had to get on with it for the sake of Honey. Anyway he aspirated it, sent it for analysis, came back spindle cell tumour and she had to have it removed today and again it will be sent off for analysis. Shes being a little star. Oh boy though what a year.

Thanks again for your kind words, most appreciated.
