Helen, Dawn or anyone out there who knows, can you email me Rob Bailey's email address please? I have a wonderful picture of Nevedith Jayfa Jaymee the day he won his first CC in Poland and I would love to send it to him. Would anyone else like to see it too?

His email address should be on his website but isn't, which is most annoying. It certainly does make it hard for someone visiting a website to contact the owner when there is no contact information whatsoever on the site.

Thanks a heap!

Hi Lanny

There is an email button on Robs website which takes you to his email address, which is baileyfergal@aol.com

Hi back: Thank you for the information Dawn. I wish I could confirm that his email address is on the website, but every time I bring it up there are only six buttons on the left, the last button of which is Hotspurs. There is no contact point. I have had a number of other people here in North America that I have recommended visit his site find the same thing. I just verified my problem with an American friend today and she too cannot find his contact information anywhere on the site so somewhere there is a layout problem. It seems to me when I was visiting Rob last October, when I was over for SYWC and Driffield I went on his computer and found the same thing... and mentioned it to him at that time.

I don't know what way the page is set up, but for those of us using 800 x 600, which I think is pretty standard practice, we cannot find the button. Perhaps the contact button needs to be placed somewhere else on the site so that whatever reading format we have set our computers at, wit will be visible.

Thanks again. I'll send him the picture now.

Lanny

Oops! Having mentioned Jayfa Jaymee perhaps a few of your want to see what a fine lad he has grown up to be? This is the photo I have now sent to Rob. It is of Nevedith Jayfa Jaymee, born 18 May 2004. Dad is Eng.Ch. Fullerton Heavenly Mover and dam is Nevedith Ceefa Ceeda. Jaymee is shown here with his owner, Ulrike Homer the day he won his first CC in Poland where Ulrike is posted right now.

The most used desktop settings these days, so I am informed, is something like 1028 x 760 but I do appreciate your problems and will have alook to see if I can change things a little. This is one of the problems with web design which is not widely appreciated. The different size desktops, the different browsers and the differnet colour settings people have.

I use IE for browsing (which richard says is a pile of **** as he used Firefox) but not everything will reproduce the same in all browsers. An example on fullerton whippets is the menu bar (which is what you are saying you can't see all of) when using IE you cannot use the wheel on your mouse to scroll (assumiong your mouse has a wheel) whereas in firefox that option is available to you.

It is virtually impossible to get a page to look the same in all browsers and at all desktop settings.

BTW have you tried a different desktop setting? We currently use 1280 x 960 so get a LOT more on the screen at once, the downside is that some folk will find the lettering too small. As I say I base the designs around a desktop of about 1028 x 760 .

Most people have real problems changing their desktop settings, so when we designed our website (Avalonia Whippets) we made it to the 800 x 600 standard. The problem with the higher definition is that not everyone has their browser set that way, and unfortunately, a huge number of people may be email literate but unable to carry out basic functions on their computer, such as changing the resolution. I know how to do it, but basically refuse to do so because most of the world is set up so that 800 x 600 res will give you all there is to see. It is really a hassle to go into the settings and change the setting to the different resolution, and then see everything in miniscule typeface, especially as the eyes age (not my personal problem -- I don't wear glasses). But working on a computer day in, day out for the past several decades, I have come to appreciate larger typefaces for their ability not to wreck your eyes.

The resolution problems with Rob's site are similar to those on your newest uplinked site for Roedeane. I could not email them either, to leave a message on their new site because again, my browser didn't give me the icon I needed to click on. On the other hand -- and it may be a solution -- the clickers on your own site are all there and easy to access because they are below your photograph and all visible and accessible. Your logistics - emal and other information -- are readily available in that format, so, thinking of people far less computer literate than you are, or that I may pretend to be, it may be wise to increase accessibility to the sites of Fullerton and Roedeane by moving the access to owner button to somewhere where everyone, including those steadfastly using 800 x 600 browsers, or those that don't have a clue what we are talking about and who haven't a clue how to manipulate settings to get everything within the image window -- have access to the necessary information. Your sites are otherwise absolutely excellent and it is thrilling to see English whippet people finally making a move onto the internet, long after so many others around the world have done so.

Keep on increasing access please, because people like myself set the barometer on the quality of whippets in the world on the basis of what we see in England. While I may get over every year or two and attend a few shows and catch up with what is happening, much of the rest of the world has to rely on British websites to give them the news of English whippets.

I hope to see them on my next trip over to shows in early 2006.

As for Jaymee, here is how he looked the day he flew out of Manchester to the continent after the SYWC show in October 2004. Of course the blue eyes are flash.... but perhaps appropriate to match his the bag he was carried on into the airline cabin in!

I agree that some folk have a problem with changing their desktop settings. Similarly won't even realise that there are alternatives to Bill Gates' products - which are often better and cheaper - but that is another bugbear of ours.

The most current data from w3c is that 55% use 1028x768

The following is taken from the w3c site

Display Resolution

The current trend is that more and more computers are using a screen size of 1024x768 pixels or more:

IN July 2005

14% used greater than 1024x768

55% use 1024x768

25% use 800x600

the rest use other sizes

IN January 2005

10% used greater than 1024x768

5% used 1024x768

35% used 800x600

back in 2003 the differences were less marked between 800x600 & 1024x768 with only a couple of % difference.

Internet Explorer 6 is used by 70% of people with over 20% using firefox/mozilla which really is a significant number and is increasing month on month.

As we both know the internet is changing constantly and we should try to facilitate all users but this is not always possible.

Holy smoke Wendy! Well said, in very few words! I went onto Rob's site, hit F11 and everything I have never had access to popped up. like magic! It is absolutely wonderful and I thank you for the solution.

Unfortunately, I am still wondering how many people don't know this solution and end up frustrated! Delighted with your solution. Now how do we tell the world that doesn't know this trick?
