I've not seen the photo but I agree entirely with your comments. As an ex-RAF Police doghandler from the 50's, this years GSD BoB appalled me, it was a travesty of a dog.

Earlier, I remarked that I had serious disagreements with both the wording and the interpretion of some breed standards, this is the sort of thing I meant. One of the problems I have with the offending TV programme is the implication that this applies to all 'pedigree' dogs. It doesn't.

As my user name suggests I have some connection with Bedlington Terriers. They are a breed I have kept and have worked. Twenty years ago the idea of using the vast majority of 'pedigree' Beddies would have been risible.

Nowadays, it is another story. Bigger, but not to big, stronger, with jaws like bear traps, splendid coats and the temperament to match their heritage, the best are a credit to their breeders and an exemplar to others. Fortunately they are not alone..........

I must say I wish that Crufts would return to just being a dog show, without all the other things that go on there. The show dogs are now secondary to fly ball, agility etc, basically it is just a shopping venue and a day out for people, an awful lot of them are not interested in watching the judging. It would be lovely to go back to the old days, just the dogs and a few trade stands!!!!!!!!!!

I think it is important that there are other activities besides the conformation judging; to show what dogs are capable of. And it is important that show breeders keep health and function in mind when breeding show dogs.

(but no, I don't see the point of RSPCA and Dog's Trust knee-jerk reaction to the adverse publicity)
