copy of the email
Dear Mr Campbell,
Thank you for your email regarding the hunting of rabbits with lurchers
in
Scotland.
DEFRA does not deal with such matters in Scotland, which are dealt with
by
the Scottish Executive Environment and Rural Affairs Department. I
have
contacted this department, who informed me that the new law on hunting
in
Scotland (the 'Protection of Wild Mammals (Scotland) Act 2002') does
not
affect the hunting of rabbits with dogs. A person who hunted a rabbit
with
a dog/dogs in Scotland would not be liable for prosecution. You can
read
the Act at:
www.scotland-legislation.hmso.gov.uk/legislation/scotland/acts2002
If you require any more information about this Act, you can contact the
Scottish Executive Environment and Rural Affairs Department at the
following
address:
Pentland House
47 Robb's Loan
Edinburgh
EH14 1TY
or email ceu@scotland.gsi.gov.uk
I hope this answers your query.
