warning to all dog owners the is a sickness called seasonal canine illness that is doing the rounds at the moment. it was first discovered at sandringham estate in 2009 as well as at other woodlands in the same year. it is not known what the cause is but it is thought to be caused by either bacteria, blue/green algae or fungal spores. it only appears from september to november. last year at sandringham estate 37 dogs contracted it and 11 died. sandringham has posted notices on the estate as well as on its web site. ii dogs have fallen ill in the past two weeks within hours of walking on the estate. symptoms include vomiting diarrhorea and lethargy. if your dog shows these symptoms please contact your vet immediatly.

The Animal Health Trust also has info on its website and are trying to pinpoint the cause.

This has not been caused by lurcher world we try to keep all concerned healthy, and its not transmitted from dog to dog. my freya has it and is at this moment in the vets on a drip, but my two pups are fine please be sensible and do not blame lurcherworld for something that is far beyond our control.

Birds carry the disease and it can be ingested from the dog eating something with infected bird poo on as well.

we was told about this when we stopped at the caravan club site at sandringham for the week when the game fair was on they had 5 case of it while we was there we were lucky with my 2

they also have it at clumber park in nottinghshire a few dogs have died there aswell

we were told to keep them on leads at all times and to wash there feet when we got back from walking ..

i did tell ann about the illness on the saturday when were talking to her at sandringham mainly because of the pups

we,ve been back a couple of weeks now so we must have been lucky

My foal went backwards every time they removed the drip (IV feeding). He had contracted septicaemia and his disgestive system and gut were so damaged and perforated from ulceration that he couldn't have recovered. Please ask the vet to keep Freya on drip for as long as needs be so that her immune system can have the best chance of fighting off the infection without her body having the stress of having to feed itself and keep hydrated. Has she had IV antibiotics?

My thoughts are with Freya and you - sending hugs and very best wishes and hope for her xx

I could be wrong here,but i wonder if it's something to do with the bracken that grows around these areas! Whether it is or not,don't let your dogs run through bracken as it is toxic!

good news freya can come home later today got through the night chewed her drip out not being sick and if she keeps some food down thiis morning she can come home. thanks to all for advice and very kind thoughhts chrissyxxxx

yeah its lovely she is very tired and has dropped 1.5kg in weight got to give very small feeds for next 24 hours every two hours then slowly increase amount and time got claviseptin as well big thanks and hugs chrissy and freyaxxxx
