There is a big difference between dog running towards another, in what could be interpreted as possibly hostile manner, and 2 dogs playing together. In my case my Borzoi approached wagging her tail and the other dog, GSD cross was playing with her. The OP stated her dog was also having fun playing with the spaniel, from the description of what happened, the spaniel was not worried in any way.

Actually to the untrained eye there isn't necessarily a difference between a hostile dog running towards you and a friendly one, besides unless the individual actually knows the approaching dog how the heck would they know what's on its mind. A strange dog running at mine isn't going to make me think ahhh bless, it's coming to play. My initial thought would be uh oh dog approaching fast, what is it going to do?? after all plenty of people will say if it's wagging it's tail it means it's friendly but that isn't always true, a highly roused dog with bad intentions will also wag its tail. Possibly tail carriage could give some indication as to its intent but who the hell has time to study all this with a strange dog approaching fast.

The OPs dog may have been having fun but clearly the spaniel owner felt his dog was under attack...unless you are the owner of the spaniel and can testify that you randomly attack dogs when they are having fun, it is highly likely that the owner was seriously concerned about the safety of his dog. Only the owner of the spaniel really knows whether his dog was having fun or not and like I said before it is quite possible that from a distance the OP saw the man fending off the dog with his foot rather than actually administering random kicks for no good reason.

I feel really sorry that the OPs dog has had bad experiences in the past and fully understand what it is like to own a dog traumatised by past events but at the end of the day the other owner has a right to walk their dog safely without being molested, whether playfully or otherwise,by someone elses dog.

plenty of people post on here about how they hate strange dogs running up and interfering with their walk and loads of people on here sympathise but it seems odd to me that now this is seemingly the other way around people still sympathise.....it's difficult enough trying to be a good and responsible dog owner but sometimes it seems you just can't win whatever you do.

xx
