Hi everyone!

Last month I welcomed Yoshi into our family! He's a yellow lab and he is now 12 weeks. We've given him basic training and he is thriving on it. He obviously has plenty of room for improvement, but we've only had him three weeks yet

Would now be a good time to introduce another puppy? If so, should I get a female or a male dog?

I have plenty of time for another one, and we live just around the corner from a field and a park.

Can you give me some opinions please? I already have my eye on a black lab... So the quicker the advice the better haha

I didn't want to read and run. When you say you have lot's of time, how much?

If it were me, I'd enjoy the puppy you have, train him really well and look at getting a puppy once Yoshi has gotten a bit older. Around a year old perhaps.

It'll be much easier to train the new pup if Yoshi can help you out by already knowing it all

But, that is only what I'd do. It is completely up to you

My two lurchers was both six.month old when i got them but one month apart and they got on fine was a wee bit hard work at times but never a problem and never did i think i shouldnt have, a joy to own, train.. Best of luck in your decision.

Two is very hard work, so it just really depends on what you are able/willing to put into it. In some ways it's easier as they entertain themselves, but in other ways it's harder as you have to make the effort to do things individually as well as together or else they become too dependent on each other. I kept two pups from a litter and I took them to separate training classes, took them out alone to places. It was more than double the work of one pup. I love them dearly, but I honestly don't think I would do it again.

If you do want them close in age perhaps 6 months to a year would be good. That way the current pup has learned most of what it needs to and new pup can learn from both you and him.

It's good that you're asking. Never say never, but just be prepared it's a lot harder overall.

Defo agree its hard work but 10 yrs ago i trained my two lurchers and also was asked to help sort a gsd x all at the same time lol now i didnt have the time to do all three one at a time all was done together as they all new each other, now dog one a saluki x always had his moments playing deaf but did ok dog two whip x did well and bonded now dog three with me only was a offlead obidient long stay on comand so it can be done to a safe level not excellent but ok level, would i try it that way again? Hell no do you think im.crazy lol

2 young pups = double trouble! At the minute your pup is 12 weeks old.....a baby.....it will reach adolesence and what you may think has been the 'perfectly' trained puppy can quickly become a rebellious nightmare...now multiply that by 2!!!!

Be realistic......train one and then when your puppy is at last a year old, then consider getting another, perhaps. Do NOT underestimate the effort required in training 1 pup nevermind 2.

Wouldn't get another pup until the first one is at least housetrained , knows the basic commands and is settled into a routine . Wouldn't expect the commands and the settled routine until the pup is at least 6months old. By then you may well have changed your mind anyway !

You will never have the same relationship with your dog once you get another. Enjoy it and don't rush into having another.

Tiger thats not true my two lurchers are totally with me they get treated the same exersized the same loved the same, my black sauki x was first in and had no problems for over ten years.
