vets and everyone else sean, welcome to RIP OFF BRITAIN

yes i do , a horse of mine is a bit old and decrepid but has a reoccurring eye problem , he just needs a tube of eye ointment and it goes, well optrex infected eyes over the counter at boots is exactly the same as what he is given from the vets, wait til you hear what i had to pay for it!

£168.71!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that costs 56p a tube to buy in!!!!

lol i thought our vet was bad lol until i read about urs. urs definitely has problems

however 2 vets trips in last 2 days , 2 injections and some rehydration mixture, all came to £48

yes, thats the point im making, this is u visiting we r talking about, how many people are also visiting on the one day...? just think how much money they r making from so called diagnosis. they r fuking robbing bastards

jst sit and watch how many come out with a bag of presciption food!!! sat yesterday for an hour and saw 6 people come out with science diet as they dog would become so ill without this bag of £20 food!!!! :- "

todays bill i thought was ok but the eye cream i had to pay under duress but i staed on the bill that i never wanted them on my property ever again and i would be informing local horse owners of their high prices, also wrote to the vet bodies and told them and now they do have a free visit in the area where you pay no call out on the last wed of every month, i didnt even need a visit though!! i jus called for the cream to be sent!!!

 well they got 120quid for an hour if u sat and watched 6 people coming out with science diet that was quite good mustnt you admit?

night night hafta go to work in the morning to pay this bastardin vet bill. :)) :))

Dont even get me talking about vets!!!!

£90 for an anti sickness injection!? for a dog, £280 to stich up a wound (only needed 3 small ones) and he must stay in over night....what????,

but £140 to casterate my stallion (and he was older so normally a bit more difficult) which i thought inc all drugs etc was good. :sweating:

they amaze me.... Im having 3 horses fully inj on friday so lets see what they sting me for this?

We'd be lost without them though wouldn't we, and I wouldn't want the job, don't get me wrong with 4 dogs and a cat I'd love the fees to be cheaper, but there's bigger rip off's I'd rather pay vets fees than council tax

All I can say is I'm glad I don't live where any of you lot live! I think my vet must be heaven! When I've gone in about a suspect lump and been told oh it's just where he's knocked himself hard I've not been charged for anything. You never get charged for having stiches taken out or anything like that.

My friends 18 year old dog had an Op the other month: 5 teeth removed, teeth cleaned, large lump taken and nails clipped. All for the tidy sum of £145! When his wound split after the stiches were removed they put staples in for free!

The only thing I hate is surgery hours is between 9-10am and 5.30/6.30 on a first come first served bases. If your later arriving and sometimes if you show up extra early you can still be waiting for 2.5hours till you're seen!

So how do the Vets justify such extortionate prices?

I've lived in Greece and rescued dogs there and some PTS.

It's so, so much less expensive.

Full vaccinations, neutering and stitching wounds were unbelievably cheap in comparison.

The vet we used there was brilliant. Didn't speak a word of English and was probably never gonna get rich!!! But allowed us to save a few dogs along the way :huggles:

Meg's Conjunctivitis cost £100 here for 'consultations' and Medication!!!

I suspect the real culprit is the government that charges extortionate prices for tertiary education. So many young vets must still be paying for their university loans. (w00t)

Also, we expect our vets to have up to date equipment and surgeries in convenient (but expensive) locations.

I'm not condoning the fees they charge at all, but I can see why some are so expensive. We can always get a prescription from them (now compulsory for them to provide it) and get medicines on-line cheaper, including special diets.

I think a national set of figures with set charges for certain procedures would be helpful. We can always ask for a break-down of any bill and question anything we think has been over charged.

I've also been charged huge amounts for what seem to be minor treatments (£10 for a very poor nail cutting by the surgery nurse. Took dog there because I am not confident with her black nails) and it hurts, but unless we keep questioning and asking for a breakdown, the charges will not change unfortunately.

I don't think there is an answer to this (like dentist bills!!) except to shop around if at all possible. :(

I took Robbie to the vet today.

He was given an injection in his neck and one right into the vain on his front leg, 2 days worth of antibiotic's and another kind of tablet (painkiller / something else  for got what he said they were for )

The total bill was £35.41,,,he's now in no pain, eating a little and Im much happier too

Worth every penny

well that is lucky for some, my dogs went to the vet and it cost me over 300 pounds, now that is expensive for the lack of work they did to the dogs, in my case i know that vets are expensive and i feel that they are robbing bastards.
